salem and beyond

Hi

We are planning on a day trip to salem from our base in boston via train.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other places of interest accessable by train from salem.

We are interested in things historical,beaches and quant little shops to browse round .

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You%26#39;re going to really like your day trip to Salem! I sent you a message on one of your other posts, look for it, I gave you another idea along the coast....

If you wanted to go some where closer to Boston and not that far at all, see if you can get to Marina Bay in Quincy for one of your visits! If it%26#39;s a nice sunny day you might actually get a good day for it and you%26#39;d be so glad you saw it!

Go to www.flagshipmarinas.com and click on Marina Bay Boston Harbor, North Quincy, and you%26#39;ll see what it has to offer, it would be a fun day trip and you could really get some beautiful pictures from the pier here, it%26#39;s a really pretty spot, wait until you see it!

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Take the ';T'; Red Line to North Quincy. Take Bus #211. Bus leaves at 10 minutes before the hour. No Sunday service. Take bus to Marina Bay stop. Marina is 15 minute walk from bus stop. Last bus back to North Quincy T Station leaves at 6:15 PM.

A %26amp; A Metro South, a courtesy shuttle provided by the business community at Marina Bay, departs the North Quincy T Station (parking lot-lower level) every 20 minutes from 6:30AM to 8:30PM. The Marina Bay location for pick-up/drop-off is the front entrance to 500 Victory Road. There is no fee for this shuttle service.

I would recommend the towns of Rockport and Manchester. Rockport has a great little area called Bearskin Neck that%26#39;s lined with galleries and shops overlooking a picturesque little harbor. The neck is a pleasant walk (less than a mile) from the train station.

Manchester-by-the-Sea is also a small oceansidetown community, though not quite as ';artsy'; as Rockport, it has its share of little shops and restaurants, and beautiful Singing Beach, all within a few blocks of the train station.

Salem and Manchester are on the same line of the commuter rail as Rockport (Rockport is at the end of this line), though Salem can also be reached by taking a train destined for Newburyport. Newburyport is also a great little seaport village with plenty of shops and restaurants, but the downtown area is a bit further from the train station... just over a mile.
