my boyfriend and i are from Philadelphia, we enjoy the city life here, but my bf is orginally from Kentucky and is interested in seeing the foilage of the fall in New England. We are planning on driving there so I don%26#39;t know if we should stay in the city and do things or if we should go somewhere else where the foilage is nicer and more enjoyable. Let me know
boston or notLeaf-peeping is a great thing to do in New England. Although having lived in this part of the world all my life, I never tire of it. As for the best viewing, it all depends on when you%26#39;re coming this direction. Foliage viewing starts north near the Canadian border as soon as now, or towards Boston and points south as October moves forward.
It%26#39;s certainly easy to drive to Boston and then make day trips to places within easy reach - southern Vermont, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, even apple picking in Central Mass. It all depends on what you wish to do. The temps here in town are lovely right now. The day trip option would be good if you encounter a day that%26#39;s less than stellar and you%26#39;d rather putter in town. Boston is easy on foot and you can spend hours wandering.
Here%26#39;s the deal breaker - you need to figure it out fast and book some places to stay. October is a huuuuuuge tourism month in New England, and many places are already full.

other New England states have similar sites. Use Google to find them.
agreed all around. depends what else you like to do besides peeping -- bearing in mind that prime peeping areas are full of crafts fairs, antiquing, etc. esp. this time of year. as you know --- re either philly or kentucky (both with leaves), there%26#39;s peeping and there%26#39;s peeping. right in Boston, you can have a gorgeous autumnn new england experience, walking along the ';Emerald Necklace'; (olmstead designed) park system to wends it%26#39;s way from the Common and Garden downtown out past the fenway (museum of art, berklee college of music, etc.). but for the ';breathtaking-panorama'; peeping, I think most -- even ';locals'; venture up to NH or VT mtns -- doable by day-trip from Boston by car, both of which also have decent-sized towns with (limited selection) live music on weekends -- but yes beware northern NE weekends are prolly already booked.
also there are websites that depict graphically the ';migration'; of the foliage north-to-south. looking out my window in southern NH right now, not yet, you still have time.
if I had to book a, say, late-oct. trip for city-life people right this minute, I%26#39;d say, drive to boston -- time that for the weekend, most stuff going on, then mosey up to NH/VT for a couple weekdays.
