We are a family of four who will be in Boston for the first time in October, and this is a last-minute trip. I%26#39;m having a hard time finding a hotel that sleeps 4 for less than $300 a night. We would be willing to stay in Cambridge or somewhere else on the outskirts (we would like a safe area as we don%26#39;t know what we%26#39;re doing) which is close to a T-line. Are there any suggestions? We would be willing to pay under $200. We%26#39;d like to do Priceline, but double beds in the city seem rare. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Hotel for the 3rd week of October
Hello Aspire2B
One of the more popular ways of booking a room is by first going to www.betterbidding.com then www.priceline.com. I understand you%26#39;re trying to book double beds for the room and as a suggestion I would call this hotel directly to see what they can do for you. I read about it today in this forum and drove by it over the weekend down in Boston. It%26#39;s getting rave reviews here and on other sites! It looks great! I%26#39;d check it out if I were you to see what they can do for you? Here%26#39;s their tel # 617 624-0202
The site is....
http://www.bulfinchhotel.com
It%26#39;s at 107 Merrimac St., Boston, MA and it%26#39;s actually in a great location, near North Staton and the Boston Gardens, within minutes from Faneuill Hall, The Aquariam, The Childrens Museum, the Freedom Trail, it%26#39;s a stones throw from the North End for the great restaurants, it%26#39;s fairly new, so you know it%26#39;s clean any way, the pictures of it are beautifully done up. If I were you I%26#39;d check it out....
If you can%26#39;t get a hotel room and the type that you need? May be you should check a B%26amp;B in Boston? Try www.bostonB%26amp;B.com and see what they can do for you when you call? If not then may be there might be other people here that can suggest something for you! I know you%26#39;ll find a place eventually!
Good luck and have fun!
Hotel for the 3rd week of October
Hi Aspire,
First of all, you can%26#39;t use Priceline for what you want. If you look at Priceline%26#39;s small print, it says that they only guarantee the room you get will sleep two people. If you need to have a room that sleeps more, they suggest you NOT book with them. You could get around that by booking two rooms, but that may not end up saving you money.
Having said that, I%26#39;m the one who%26#39;s been directing people to the Clarion Bullfinch hotel. It%26#39;s very reasonable, and it%26#39;s in a great location. It%26#39;s a new hotel, also, so it%26#39;s clean and comfortable, from what I%26#39;ve read here. It%26#39;s reviewed here on Trip Advisor, so take a look at that.
Also, if you don%26#39;t mind staying outside the city center, you can try two Marriott hotels, one in Newton, which is near the Riverside station on the Green Line, and the other in Quincy, which is near the Quincy Adams Red Line station. Both are very safe, quiet suburbs and with the T nearby, you can take it directly into downtown and leave the car. In Quincy also, near the North Quincy red line station, there%26#39;s the Best Western Adams Inn, which I%26#39;ve heard is reasonable and decent.
In Cambridge, you should take a look at the Sheraton Commander hotel, near Harvard Sq., which is a convenient location, and the Cambridge Marriott in Kendall Sq., which is also right on the Red Line.
Try Holiday Inn Brookline. It%26#39;s right across from the St. Paul T Stop on the Green line in a safe, friendly nice neighboorhood and it%26#39;s 10-15 minutes (depending on time of day) to the central parts of the city. It%26#39;s also a block away from Coolidge Corner a great place to grab breakfast, eat, enjoy or just walk around with your family. It%26#39;s also reasonable because it%26#39;s techincally in Brookline. (though you could take a 5 minute walk and be in ';Boston';) I think you also get a Go Boston Card on certain package deals which gets you into attractions for a lot less than you would pay. I don%26#39;t know the details but if I were you I would check the website to see how to do book. I also think that the Beacon Inn is really cute but I don%26#39;t know how they deal with families. But my friend%26#39;s parents stayed there and had a really good stay. http://www.beaconinn.com/
Also, (actually located next to my apartment building) is a cute place called the Courtyard at the Marriot. Also located in Coolidge Corner and across from the Green line Coolidge Corner stop. Very Very safe and very attractive, too. I don%26#39;t know the rates but it may be worth a looksee
I am not sure what to think about some of these travel sites, especially the Hotwire one, where you don%26#39;t see what hotel you got until you%26#39;ve already booked it. I still prefer to call the hotel directly if I need to make a reservation. The Holiday Inn and Courtyard by Marriott in Brookline look nice, but are little on the pricy side. The Clarion Collection ';Bullfinch'; would probably be your best bet. It is a boutique-style hotel located in a building that dates back to 1900. I believe it just opened as a hotel in 2004, if I remember right. There is no pool or restaurant at this hotel, just to let you know ahead of time. The rooms aren%26#39;t the largest, but are cozy and clean. The location is pretty good and the staff go out of their way to provide their guests excellent service. I would consider staying here if I were you. I hope you have a good time and enjoy your stay!
