Conch Fritters

A post in the Florida forum got me thinking about conch fritters. I haven%26#39;t seen them anywhere in the area since Small Planet in Copley Square closed a couple years ago. Anyone know anyplace local that offers %26#39;em?

If you go to www.phantomgourmet.com and ask in their forum, you will probbly find someone who knows. They have great info on all the New England restaurants including raves %26amp; critiques.

Another great forum for questions like that is the Boston Chowhound forum at

Let us know if you find a place. I love those. I had them in Key West a few times, and they are delicious.

By Googling, I found that Green Street in Cambridge has them on their menu. Has anyone tried them? (I like %26#39;em with bits of hot peppers in the batter!)

I%26#39;m also interested in finding out..I haven%26#39;t had a good conch fritter since the last time I was down in Key West..

The more I think about it, the more likely I%26#39;m gonna hop on a plane and go down! My favorite conch fritters are at a place called ';Australian Seafood'; (I think it%26#39;s on Key Largo), but I also love them at the Half-Shell Raw Bar... followed by what I considered (when I lived there in %26#39;75-%26#39;76) to be the best Key Lime Pie.

Can you believe I went into a local seafood store recently to ask if they sold the batter, and they didn%26#39;t know what conch was!!!!

I have found a mail-order outlet that sells the batter for $9 per pound... but the $55 FedEx charge makes it almost cheaper to go in person!
