Lobster Shipping

I will be in Massachusetts in the middle of October, and my family would like me to bring back some live lobsters to chow down on. How do I go about shipping them or do I bring them on the plane with me? Also, any suggestions on where to get them from. I will be in the Salem area the first 3 nights, and then down on the Cape for the last 4 nights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the lobsters are packed in seaweed and dry ice, you can check them like you would your other checked baggage.

Most of the towns throughout the cape will have lobsters for sale. If you prefer you can wait til you get the Logan, go to the Legal Seafoods shop and get them there.

You can also go to J. Hook Lobster on Atlantic Ave sandwiched in between the new and old Northern Ave. bridges.

There is also a ';lobster pound'; immediately over the bridge (on the left) from Salem in Beverly... I believe it%26#39;s called Rowan%26#39;s. If you%26#39;re in the area anyway, maybe worth a look... though it%26#39;s been a lifetime since I got anything there. While most places will take advance orders timed to your return home, I%26#39;ve found that the FedEx charges can sometimes exceed the cost of the food (I was quoted $9 for a pound of conch fritter batter in Key Largo, but $55 to ship it!)

I%26#39;ve seen lots of people carry lobsters on flights, but with all the security procedures and restrictions on carry-ons these days, I%26#39;d ask the airline (or MassPort)... using Legal at the airport may end up being the least hassle.
