snowboard

Which is the best place to snowboard around Boston? I will be there for Christmas and I want a one day trip to the mountain

Thank you

The closest areas to ski around Boston are Mount Wachusett in Princeton, MA or Nashoba Valley in Bolton. Both will require you to have a rental car. The snow will more than likely be man-made at that time, since we don%26#39;t begin to see decent real snow until January.

If you end up renting a car, take the extra time and head for New Hampshire or Vermont. The snow is real and the mountains are a little larger.

You can drive a couple hours up North into New Hampshire to Waterville, Loon or Cannon Mountain. Mt. Wachusett is OK, its a small mountain (over an hour west from Boston) and tends to be over crowded especially on the weekends.

Thanks a lot,é©´how long would be the trip to Vt?

Depends on where in the state you%26#39;re looking to go. The southern part of the state has Killington, Stratton and Mount Snow - probably about 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Further North - about 3 - 4 hours - will be Stowe, Smugglers%26#39; Notch and Sugarbush. Mad River Glen does not allow snowboarding. Because of the distance these places are best done as an overnight.

Don%26#39;t forget about Blue Hills down in Canton, 15 minutes south of town. That is the closest place, but who knows if/what they%26#39;ll have for snow around XMAS. Small place, too, like Nahsoba Valley. It takes about a minute for a good skier to go top to bottom. Wachusett is the closest ';big mountain'; skiing to Boston, about an hour or so west of town off Rt. 2, just past Fitchburg. Haven%26#39;t skiied there a whole lot, but I can see it being very crowded on the weekends with just the one main detachable quad. But the mountain has a 1000%26#39; vertical, compared to 200-300%26#39; at the hills mentioned above. Mount Sunapee is about 1.5 hours up Rts. 93 and 89 in NH. Gunstock is about the same distance over by Laconia, NH. They both are about 1500%26#39; mountains, so you can get in a decent run.

BTW, Nashoba Valley Ski Area is in Westford, MA, not Bolton. From Boston, go 93 north to 128/95 south to 3 north to 495 south to exit 32. About 5 minutes off the exit.

Or Rt 2 north from Cambridge all the way to 495 north to exit 31. About 5 minutes off the exit.

About a 45 minute ride from downtown Boston.....
