Staying at Marriott Copley place next week and looking for a %26#39;great food%26#39; / non-touristy / non-chain restaurant within walking distance.
Preferrably Italian and/or seafood menu
Already planning a couple meals in the North End (aka Daily Catch etc.) but have a couple of lunches open and would like to just walk to them.
A place where the locals go would be the best!
Thank you in advance
Copley Area - good local restaurant - Italian and/or Seafood
Have I got a place for you Fueler2...
This restaurant is perfect for lunch. It%26#39;s not even a 2 minute walk from your Hotel, the Marriott Copley. I had lunch here several times, it%26#39;s got the best best menu, you can check it out online. It%26#39;s called ';Croma'; (www.cromaboston.com) an upscale Italian pizzeria %26amp; bar with a wonderful patio that we just love. A lot of locals I know love it here because it%26#39;s reliable and convenient, you definitely need reservations especially at lunch time. I know you%26#39;ll really like it here, it%26#39;s very good. It%26#39;s at 269 Newbury St between Fairfield %26amp; Gloucester Streets. The # is 888 670-1956
If you really want seafood right within walking distance from your hotel then there%26#39;s no more better place that we go to other than ';Turner Fisheries'; right in the Westin Copley Place at 10 Huntington Avenue www.turnersboston.com; you might think it%26#39;s a touristy place where it%26#39;s in a hotel? But a ton of locals like their menu because their sauces are unbelievable that they use and they have broil, grilled %26amp; steamed seafood and vegetables that are just wonderful! Check out the menu and you%26#39;ll see what I mean, it%26#39;s got such a beautiful atmosphere in there now more than ever! They renovated the restaurant again and it%26#39;s just so so pretty inside!
Have a great time, That Daily Catch is fantastic in the North End you%26#39;ll really like it there! Have fun!

I second the comments on Turner Fisheries and the Daily Catch. Although it%26#39;s in a hotel, Turner has wonderful food and great clam chowder. The Daily Catch can%26#39;t be beat but get there early as it%26#39;s a very small place and the lines get VERY long.
If you%26#39;re ever in the mood for Mexican food (sophisticated Mexican, not the chips and bad refried beans variety) take a look at Casa Romero which is also near your hotel. It%26#39;s at 30 Gloucester Street (side entrance on the alley) between Newbury Street and Commonwealth Avenue. It%26#39;s one restaurant I always visit (along with the other two above) when I%26#39;m in town. It%26#39;s not one of your typical tourist places and the food and atmosphere are great.
There%26#39;s a great little local place called Anchovie%26#39;s on Columbus Ave about half way between Dartmouth and West Newton Sts. Columbus Ave is just 2 blocks from Copley Square, heading south on Dartmouth St.
The menu consists maily of Italian food... from Pizza and calzones to Chicken or Eggplant Parmigiana and lasagna. The prices are very reasonable $9-$12 for a dinner entree. We always get their garlic steamed mussel appetizer... delicious! They have a full bar, which is a very popular place with locals, and gets busy after work... particularly Fridays and Saturdays.
I second the recommendation for Croma on Newbury. Great gourmet pizza and pasta dishes. The prices are extremely reasonable, although the drinks are a bit pricey.
Go to North End for Italian! It%26#39;s a walk, or get on the T and get off at Haymarket. Cross the street and you are at North End. It%26#39;s Litty Italy basically, and it feels so great and different than eating at a hotel in my opinion. However, if you dont want to travel, I guess that%26#39;s a different story. If you are at North End, Salem Street has lots of restaurant. I think (and heard) that they%26#39;re all great!
Add Skipjacks to the mix of good seafood in the Copley area. I think they have the best chowder in the city. They%26#39;re a little tough to find, wedged into a hidden corner behind Trinity Church, at the corner of Clarendon and St. James. Lunch time is a little hairy as the place gets descended upon by all the suits from the Hancock Tower, but the bar is a quiet oasis for a drink. You can order lunch at the bar so as to avoid the loudness of the dining room.
As for Italian, I throw my hat in for the North End. You can%26#39;t go wrong with almost any of the places there, so if you have the time to wander and look at the places and their menus, do. And don%26#39;t forget Bova%26#39;s Bakery. Open 7/24!
We%26#39;re here and so far have had lunch on Monday ';Turner'; - had a great chowder and shrimp quesadilla combo around $14
Dinner tonight at Daily Catch (btw this place is so much like a seafood version of this fabulous trattoria in Florence, Italy) Anyway, between the 4 of us we had monkfish marsalla, pan seared swordfish, tuna steak, pasta ali olio, pan browned brocolli. The 4 of us dined for $106 plus tip; each had fish, veggie, pasta, and glass of wine.
The wait was worth every bite!
Hello Fueler2,
WOW That%26#39;s fantastic, I%26#39;m glad you went to Turner%26#39;s too---cool! I%26#39;m so so glad you%26#39;re enjoying yourselves! Glad to see that it%26#39;s during the week as well because Boston gets WAY too crowded on weekends----you couldn%26#39;t be here at a BETTER time! HAVE FUN AND ENJOY IT ALL!!!!
