Staying in Quincy for Boston/Salem

Found a Marriott in Quincy that will honor a rewards certificate I am trying to use.I have res. in Peabody, but the ';office park'; neighborhood doesn%26#39;t appeal to me on a get a away weekend. Would Quincy be about as convienient for one day in Salem and one day in Boston? Train between Quincy-Boston and Quincy -Salem? Will also have car, and am used to Long Island/NYC traffic. The Quincy website looks very inviting. Is it a nice area? Would apreciate all feedback!!!

Staying in Quincy for Boston/Salem

There is nothing around the Marriott Quincy

Its just a hotel in a office park.

Save your certificate for a better destination or vacation

Stay in Downtown Boston like the Parker House as they always have great deals on rooms and you won%26#39;t have to spend alot of time commuting into the city.

Its also right where you want to see all the sites and shops and restaurants all within 1-4 blocks/

Salem train is walking distance from the Parker House at North Station and this is a day trip.

If you drive park in the Pi Alley garage for only 18 per day or valet is 36. But you wont have to use your car at all staying at the Parker House

Think about taking the bus to Boston for $15 each and save the gas money,

The bus goes to South Station and its only 4 blocks to the Parker House.

Personally, I don%26#39;t know the exact locations of either the Quincy or Peabody Marriotts, but for ease of access to both Boston and Salem, I would go with Peabody... especially if the last post was correct that the Quincy Marriott isn%26#39;t near anything. Peabody is next to Salem.

Quincy is accessible to Boston by the Red Line(subway) to South Station. Salem is located on the commuter rail out of North Station. Unfortunately, there is no direct public transit link between North %26amp; South Stations... you would need to make a connection between the Red and Orange lines at Downtown Crossing or between the Red and Green lines at Park St. It%26#39;s not difficult, but in my opinion a potential exists for missing connections to the scheduled commuter trains.

Dltreks,

While the Quincy Marriott is a very nice hotel, it%26#39;s very inconvenient for touring Salem. It%26#39;s ok for touring downtown Boston, as it%26#39;s near the Quincy Adams Red Line subway station, and you can take a shuttle from the hotel (or walk, it%26#39;s only 1/2 mile away). It%26#39;s in a safe area, and if you are interested in history at all, it%26#39;s near the John Adams and John Quincy Adams national historic parks (where both were born and lived), and close to the JFK library/museum in Dorchester.

Yes, it%26#39;s all by itself in the middle of a large office park, overlooking a highway. It%26#39;s also 8 miles South of Boston, and Salem is 15 miles North of the city. If you are determined to use the Marriott certificate, and you want to visit Salem, the Peabody location would be better.

One other option. The Marriott in Newton, MA. It%26#39;s right at Rte 128 (I95) and the Mass Pike. It%26#39;s about a 5 minute drive from the Riverside Green Line T station, so you could park there and avoid the hassles of driving into Boston. It%26#39;s also easier to get to Salem from there, as it%26#39;s right up rte 128 to Rte 114. That%26#39;s still a long ride, but much better than coming from Quincy.

Also, if you stay in Newton, you can take the Green Line directly to North Station, which is where you would pick up the commuter rail train to Salem. The Red Line doesn%26#39;t go to North Station at all. The Newton location is also a nice hotel in a very safe suburb (think Great Neck...)
