going to New England on Friday
Hello Brucer2,
You could either head down to Cape Cod and stay at a really pretty Inn or B%26amp;B for several days in either the Hyannis area or further in Chatham or Brewster and just chill out down there where it%26#39;s off season. You could check out the different museums %26amp; shops in Brewster or Hyannis that are open, if you check some of the previous threads here this morning it%26#39;ll give you a lot of different ideas for Cape Cod!
If you wanted to head north instead of south you could take a scenic route along Rte 1 Topsfield from 95 and it%26#39;ll bring you all up through the towns of Danvers, Topsfield, Ipswich and Rowley. From here you stay on it and it%26#39;ll bring you right in to Newburyport, MA where you%26#39;ll notice the commuter train station on the left of that rotary you%26#39;re going to be at after your long stretch of a road going straight on this Rte 1.
At the rotary you can either head up in to Newburyport this way and check out all the quaint areas in through the town, it%26#39;s quite nice to see the historical area in through this lovely town. They have a lot of shops, coffee shops and restaurants here if you wanted to have lunch here.
If you didn%26#39;t want to stop at Newburyport and you wanted to continue further you could do that. You could either stay on this Rte 1 all the way up to Portsmouth or you could find Rte 1-B from Newburyport and it would bring you all along the coast from here up to Portsmouth and from there you could get yourself across one of the 3 bridges in Portsmouth over to Kittery, Maine. Here you could relax and check out the outlets if you want.

From here you can decide that you want to head back to Portsmouth to explore the many shops, restaurants and bistros that are in this quaint old historical town as well as in Newburyport. In any case you%26#39;ve got a few choices and you%26#39;re not really that far from Boston, it%26#39;s only an hour away. You%26#39;re taking your time, relaxing and enjoying the scenery and still getting some where while you%26#39;re at it!
Have fun, that%26#39;s the most important thing!
going to New England on Friday
We arrive on Friday 21st and are spending 2 days in Boston. Then we hire a car and have till Saturday to explore New England. Where should we go? We want to experience and explore. We are not walkers ! We pick our car up on Sunday and then have till the following Saturday to explore. Should we book motels ahead? or just hope to find a room somewhere?
We could really do with a suggested itinery. We thought about driving up the coast and then heading inland to see some scenery before heading south and visiting Cape Cod.
Hello brucer2,
If you wanted to you know, you could very easily head up to Freeport, Maine from Boston. It%26#39;s only a 2 hour drive from downtown Boston. Freeport is the home of L.L. Bean. You could stay in Boston over night then leave early in the morning for Freeport....www.freeportusa.com
From Boston:
Take I-95 to the Maine Turnpike, Exit 52.
Follow signs to I-295 North and take Exit 17, 20 or 22 for Freeport. All of these Exits lead directly to US Route 1 which is the Main Street.
You could stay 1 night or 2 here. It%26#39;s got a fantastic Inn right in Freeport that we really love! It%26#39;s the Harraseeket Inn at 162 Main St.. www/harraseeketinn.com it%26#39;s really pretty! Hopefully you can get reservations here and you probably will this time of year because it%26#39;s after the foliage season yet before the Holiday madness. It would be a really nice time to stay here and explore the many interesting upscale, designer shops and boutiques that are here. Over 170 of them, it%26#39;s quite nice, wait until you see them, my friends in Boston love it up here! These same Innkeepers own the Inn at Mystic down in Mystic, Connecticut as well, which is something we recently found out. That Mystic would be another good place to drive to; if you had the time, it%26#39;s fun there as well!
The Harraseeket Inn has an unbelievable dining room for dinner and there brunch is incredible here! We had lunch here several times after shopping. One very famous dining experience that they have? It%26#39;s called the ';Innkeepers Table'; you could try to make reservations for it---207 865-1085 it%26#39;s where you%26#39;re sitting at a big table with others and you share stories with them and vice versa. It%26#39;s unbelievable because the food is so incredible here and a lot of travelers really like it to meet others from the area, it would be something different for a change!
Check www.nhliving.com as well as ww.meliving for different alternatives or other Inns if this doesn%26#39;t appeal to you or you couldn%26#39;t get the reservations, they are two very good websites for New Hampshire and Maine!
From Freeport, Me you could head over to the White Mountains for a few days and explore that area, it%26#39;s not a bad drive over, get MAPQUEST online and you%26#39;re there! You could go to North Conway and be in the Mountains in no time from Freeport. It would be scenic and hopefully good weather for your excursion!
Try one of these B%26amp;B%26#39;s they%26#39;re so pretty....
www.farmbytheriver.com
Farm By The River
2555 West Side Rd.
North Conway, NH
603 356-2694
or
888 414-8353
It%26#39;s got unbelievable food here and you%26#39;ll really like it it%26#39;s in an incredible mountain setting with a great peaceful atmosphere, perfect for sight seeing and exploring the countryside, it%26#39;s in a great location for everything.
The Kearsage Inn
www.kearsargeinn.com
This is another really pretty Inn if you couldn%26#39;t get reservations at the Farm By The River. It%26#39;s got beautiful period furnishings and it%26#39;s in a great location. You%26#39;d have a lot to see and do between Freeport, ME and No. Conway, then you could head down from there back to Boston and stay in Boston for a few days or along the coast of Maine or NH somewhere, if you wanted to explore the coastline. There%26#39;s a lot of interesting Inns and places to stay at along here. In Maine between Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, York, Kittery (more outlets) then in New Hampshire there%26#39;s Portsmouth with www.strawberybanke.com that you could check out with Prescott Park and all the different shops and restaurants here.
There%26#39;s a wonderful Italian restaurant in Portsmouth called Anthony Alberto%26#39;s Ristorante Italiano at 59 Penhallow Ave.,
call to make reservations if you do decide to stop off at Portsmouth 603 436-4000.
Go in to those websites that I mentioned above and check out the different Inns, B%26amp;B%26#39;s and Hotels, this should help you get started to a really good adventure.
If there%26#39;s any other questions or concerns just send it right along to us and we%26#39;ll be happy to help you with it. You might also want to go in to the New Hampshire or the Maine Forum sites to get some more ideas, I thought this could get you started though for suggestions!
