Viewing the Boston Marathon - Advice Please

In 2006, we%26#39;ll be visiting Boston during the marathon and would love to watch the runners. We%26#39;re staying in the Back Bay. What advice can you give us? Thanks.

The finish line reviewing stand is in Copley Square, right in front of the Public Library. You might find it better to go out towards Kenmore Square to get a good spot. Boylston Street will be an absolute mob scene. Maybe even Heartbreak Hill in Brookline - the runners could use the encouragement.

Also be aware that T stations in the area will be shut down from about mid morning until after most of the runners have finished. [Arlington, Copley and Auditorium (Hynes/ICA)] Also, the city fences off the street from the sidewalk, making movement a little more difficult.

Best advice is walk along the route until you find a comfortable viewing spot. In my younger days, from teens to twenties, I would find a spot somewhere between Kenmore Square and Copley Square. Note however that I believe a Red Sox Game might be scheduled that day so Kenmore Square is a crazy place to be! Now that I%26#39;m older and want access to food etc. without fear of being able to regain my spot, I chill right before Heartbreak Hill in Newton where there is plenty of room to spread out. Hope that helps

Thanks. We%26#39;ll start in Kenmore Square and walk towards Brookline. :)

It%26#39;s a wonderful day. Enjoy!

Crazy in the Back Bay

You might want to bi-pass this area and take the Green Line to

Cleveland Circle near BC and watch there

Also staying over by the Boston Common you can enjoy the sites and less crowds after the crazy day comes

Walking around the Back Bay in Copley Sq is like NYE in Time Sq a real mess with way to many people and you can see anything and most of the streets are blocked so when you go to leave you have to walk way out of your way to get back to hotel.

Recomend staying at XV Beacon or Parker House or Millenium%26#39;

Check out the Parker house first as they have great prices over Marathon
