New Years Eve & weekend in Boston

Anyone know of special events going on in the city? We will probably be staying at the John Jeffries House in the Beacon Hill area for the weekend. We%26#39;d like our visit to focus on historical Boston so any advice on what to do would be appreciated. As for New Years Eve, we%26#39;d like to splurge a little and rent a stretch limo, now I just need a destination. I know most night clubs and restaurants will have New Years packages, I was hoping for something more characteristic of the city.

New Years Eve %26amp; weekend in Boston

I would stay at the Parker House

They are a great value and 1-3 blocks from the NYE Parade,Fireworks,Skating,Ice Carvings

and the have a great bar the Last Hurrah and the hotel invented Boston Creme Pie

The food is great and the prices are incrediable for a luxury hotel with so much history and great location.

New Years Eve %26amp; weekend in Boston

Hi Stormbringergrey,

As the previous poster stated and I agree wholeheartedly. The Omni/Parker House is wonderful for a hotel to stay at while visiting Boston. Ever since they renovated it a few years ago, it%26#39;s been getting much better reviews! It%26#39;s in such a perfect location for seeing Boston and celebrating New Years Eve as you are Stormbringergrey! You couldn%26#39;t be in a more historical location or more convenient place right in this historical City of Boston.

If you really want to be in a stretch limo during your tour of Boston by all means rent one then for several hours! You couldn%26#39;t be in a better City during the holiday season to enjoy it more!

Make sure you have the driver pick you up at the Parker House Hotel if you end up staying there and have him/her take you right as it gets dark all around the City to see all the beautiful lights! The City%26#39;s all lit up and it%26#39;s really pretty in town that week, especially if you plan on driving around it in a limo! Have him take you all around the Boston Common, the Public Gardens all down through Comm. Ave., then over by the Prudential Center area up through Boylston St. back down through the Boston Common again to Charles St. area; up through Beacon Hill to Louisberg Sq. area, and if the driver tells you that the streets are much too narrow for the limo, have him let you out right near Louisberg Sq. because you want to go look for 4 or 5 famous homes for a minute, that you%26#39;ll be right back!

Look for #10 Louisberg Sq. it was Louisa May Alcotts in her day. At 88 Mt. Vernon St. was Robert Frost the famous American poet of all times residence. Julia Ward Howe%26#39;s resided at #13 Chestnut St. and Edwin Booth resided at 29A Chestnut St. all not too far from each other on that stunning old brick homed hill!

You can judge how the streets look with traffic as the day rolls along, just make sure you do 1/2 of what%26#39;s suggested here if you end up seeing that there%26#39;s just no way with all those people and if you see too much traffic on the streets!

Have the limo bring you back down the Hill from the Courthouse road! It%26#39;s so pretty from this way and go along Cambridge St. over along Storrow Drive you%26#39;ll be all along the Charles River and have him go over the Memorial Bridge to Memorial Drive by MIT and all along the Charles River from that angle. You won%26#39;t have any trouble trying to find a destination for a limo ride around here! Have him take you to the Constitution Marina in Charlestown located on Boston Harbor! Tell him/her you want to see the US Constitution all lit up with the lights. You%26#39;ll be busy on your little jaunt through Boston my friend. Make sure you check out the Parker House online or call them if you book it to see what%26#39;s going on New Years Eve for events/parties. A lot of the hotels in Boston will most likely have functions and events for their guests.

Call them as well as any other hotel that you%26#39;re interested in staying at to see about New Years Eve celebrations right in their hotels in case it%26#39;s a bad night weather wise or it%26#39;s just too cold for you to be out in it.

Also the most important site that you have to check on from time to time is the First Night%26#39;s website for New Years Eve events all over the City of Boston. Go to www.firstnight.com

check this site for the next several weeks, it%26#39;s a little early right now for them, they haven%26#39;t got events downtown and uptown online yet. Just keep checking it though they will. You%26#39;ll need to make sure you buy a First Night button for the various events around the City that you%26#39;ll be viewing. The Fireworks over Boston Harbor are the highlight of the whole night at midnight!

Have A Wonderful Time Visiting Boston and Happy New Year!

Stormbringergrey,

If the City is just way too crowded for a limo ride around the town, then have the driver bring you over to the Constitution Marina as one spot along the way after the Charles River/Storrow Drive Memorial Drive jaunt. Then if there%26#39;s still more time that you have with this limo? You can always go see UMASS and the JFK Library in Dorchester. You%26#39;ll have plenty of time to see this weather permitting and the ride around this area is very pretty all on Boston Harbor. Another destination would be to have him show you Marina Bay and Quincy! If you fine that the City is incredibly crowded? Check this site out...there%26#39;s a lot to see and do here! The view from Marina Bay and the JFK Library/UMASS area is positively beautiful but I think it might be better for this type of limo ride later in the afternoon to really be able to enjoy it, so plan it accordingly!

Check this site, it%26#39;s very good...

Thanks for the tips everyone. I%26#39;ll be locking down the details of our limo trip during the next couple of days but here%26#39;s a tip for anyone else that wants to stay at the Omni/Parker House Hotel (a very good recommendation btw ... tx) Sign up on their website for the special guest program, it costs nothing and you get a 50% off coupon for a weekend stay that can be used on your first visit ... so our stay is half off, woo hoo :-) ... The only catch is that you must have the coupon in hand and it takes 3 weeks for delivery, so plan your trip accordingly.
