anniv. dinner this weekend, downtown, north end

We just decided to head up to Boston (from RI) for Sunday and Monday (Oct 9-10). We%26#39;ll have the kids with us, staying at Marriott Long Wharf (using points of course) but we can get a sitter for the night and would like to go to dinner, 2 of us.

Here are the prereqs: Within a few miles of the hotel, preferably walking distance, open on Sunday, but not too crowded or will take reservations, preferably Italian, seafood, French, American or continental (basically we%26#39;ll save the Asian/Indian places for when the kids are with us). Money is not too much of a concern, we can dress reasonably but aren%26#39;t looking for formal.

I know this is a loaded question, but anyone with prior knowledge of what we might encounter this weekend would be esp. appreciated! Thanks.

I can highly recommend Sel De La Terre, which is on State St. at Atlantic Ave., and it%26#39;s right next door to your hotel. They are open on Sunday, and they serve fantastic French/Contintental cuisine. It%26#39;s not a formal place, more like a bistro atmosphere.

Here is their website:

Another nice place, for seafood, would be Legal seafood (being you are from RI, you probably know about Legal). They have a location next door to your hotel also (in fact, it%26#39;s next to Sel De La Terre).

The North End tends to be very crowded, especially on the weekends, but you could try Antico Forno, on Salem St., or Lucca, on Hanover St. Both are quite good.

Have fun!

Also, for Italian food in the North End, you could try La Summa on Fleet Street. Excellent homemade pasta and sauce, nice atmosphere, great service. Also, casual dress is ok. We always make it a point to have at least one meal at La Summa when we are in town!

Thanks for the replies, interesting you mentioned Sel de la Terre, I saw that mentioned on the ';favorite restaurants'; thread and it does sound great. I%26#39;ll check out the North End ones too. Thanks for the input.

There is also the Spirit of Boston... dinner cruise on the harbor.

While the Spirit of Boston cruise is fun, do NOT go for the food. It%26#39;s mediocre at best, and at worst, they run out of most of it before your turn at the buffet. You%26#39;d be better off taking a harbor cruise and going to dinner at a real restaurant in the area.
