I will be going to Boston with my husband and 20 year old daughter for the first time and would like to know what area of Boston should we stay in. We will be doing a lot of sightseeing so any suggestions as to what to do and any good hotels to stay at would also be great. Thanks very much.
Where to stay in Boston?
I would recommend staying in the Copley Square area. It%26#39;s a good central spot, close to public transportation, restaurants, and shopping. With that said, price may dictate where you end up.
As for sightseeing, you don%26#39;t mention when you will be in the area, but for things historical: don%26#39;t miss the Freedom Trail; museums: there are many including the JFK Museum, Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts -- to name the biggies; theater abounds with hits such as Wicked, Hairspray, Les Miserables coming to town at various times; shopping is fun at the Prudential Center Stores, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Newbury Street; go over to Cambridge and check out Harvard and some of their museums; restaurants -- there are plenty , for authentic Italian head to the north end, the south end has great eateries as does Newbury Steet and vicintiy; there are concerts of all sorts and of course now that our baseball season has ended :[ there are other sports to choose from (i.e. C eltics, Bruins, Patriots, college sports). There%26#39;s plenty to do in Boston. If you can share some more details, other TAs can give you additional info.
Where to stay in Boston?
In addition to the Back Bay as the previous poster mentioned, you could also stay downtown. We like the Wyndham Boston as it is an easy, short walk from the Aquarium ';T'; station which is very helpful if you are flying into Logan. Also, by staying downtown, you are right by the Freedom Trail, the North End and the Faneuil Hall Marketplace area.
Hi Upstate,
Recently, I';ve been recommending that people check out a new hotel near North Station called the Clarion Bullfinch Hotel, on Merrimac St. It seems to be very popular, and very reasonably priced (for Boston). It%26#39;s fairly new and the location is great for sightseeing. It%26#39;s right near the North End, Quincy Market, Beacon Hill and most of the nice tourist sites downtown. It%26#39;s also convenient to the T.
The Clarion Bullfinch is not brand new, but is located in a historic building that was very recently restored. I have heard a lot of nice things about the hotel. It is a boutique-style hotel that I think you would enjoy staying at. There are not a lot of amenities, as in a pool or restaurant, but the hotel makes up for that by providing excellent, top-notch service. This is exactly what a boutique hotel is supposed to be, if not nicer. Also, the hotel is quite reasonably priced for being in downtown Boston and is in a pretty good location for sightseeing. I would also recommend doing a trolley tour of Boston, if that is something that would interest you. It is a fun and informative way to see the many sights of Boston without having to do a lot of walking. I hope that you have a good time and enjoy your stay.
What is your price range? I love any hotel in the Copley Plaza area. The Lenox, Copley Hotel, The Fairmont. They are all centrally located. If you%26#39;re going to be doing a lot of sightseeing, try the Go Boston Card. Great for seeing all the Boston sights that are still open during the fall. I think it%26#39;s on sale as well.
Copley Plaza is fine as you%26#39;d be close to Newbury St. However, I%26#39;d agree with the others who suggested the Bulfinch or the Wyndham. I think either of these are more centrally located.
Either the Wyndham or the Clarion Collection would be a good choice. The Wyndham is more expensive than the Clarion ';Bulfinch'; but that is the about the only thing that I can find that makes one hotel stand out from the other. The rooms in the Wyndham are probably much larger than those of the Bulfinch, but if you%26#39;re going to be doing a lot of sightseeing and not spending much time in the room except for sleeping, the room size shouldn%26#39;t be an issue. Both are in an ideal location for sightseeing and both get excellent reviews. I have not stayed at either hotel, but I have heard many positive comments about them lately. I hope that you enjoy your stay, wherever that may be.
There%26#39;re a lot of guest houses around, if you%26#39;re staying for longer than a week - ask them for their %26#39;weekly rates%26#39; - often you can score great deals that can work out to as low as $60 a night..depends how long you%26#39;re staying in town..
