lobster

Will be making my first trip to Boston with husband who lived there as a child. I would like to eat lobster for as many meals as possible - maybe one break for pizza. We will be staying in suburbs but will have a car.

Thanks for the advice!

Hello Surious!

So you two want lobster ALOT! I see that you%26#39;ll have a car, so that%26#39;ll be good! The place for lobster is right along the coast, so you%26#39;ll have to get mapquest ready for your excursions; at least you%26#39;ll be busy with the sightseeing on your venture!

Water temperatures too cold or too warm will affect the texture of the meat inside the Lobster, always remember that! To me personally I won%26#39;t get it in a restaurant anywhere but along the coast of New England preferably closer to Maine, it might just be my own superstition or something out of habit and we take for granted living so close to getting them! I grew up along the seacoast and lobster cooked the New England way is only done the best way around here and trust me these people know what they%26#39;re talking about when it comes to cooking; hooking and eating those famous lobsters.

One place that we love is Perkins Cove on the harbor of Maine at Barnacle Billy%26#39;s %26amp; Barnacle Billy%26#39;s ETC; it%26#39;s closing 10/16/05 I believe for the season, so if you%26#39;re in the area before the 16th that%26#39;s THE place for lobsters.

Chauncey Creek at Kittery Point, ME 207 439-1030 at 16 Chauncey Creek RD., is another absolute GREAT spot for lobsters around here. You%26#39;d really love the atmosphere IF it%26#39;s a nice sunny day; check it out if you%26#39;re in the area, it%26#39;s not too far from the Kittery Shopping Outlets which makes it VERY convenient I might add. Check out www.chaunceycreek.com and you%26#39;ll see what I mean about this gem of a place. It%26#39;s wonderful there....or better yet go to www.phantomgourmet.com and check out there report card on it. It%26#39;s been a favorite of ours for years, we have to go there at least THREE, may be FOUR times over the year!

Brown%26#39;s Lobster Pound on Rte 286 Seabrook Beach, NH 03874 is where they DEFINITELY ';Cook the New England way'; It%26#39;s open every day from April 15th to Nov. 15th 603 474-3331. From Nov. 15th to April 15th they%26#39;re open Fri. Sat %26amp; Sundays.

They won several years at the Seafood Festival at the beach for having the BEST lobster rolls. They use REAL lobster meat and don%26#39;t use ';fill'; which is what you have to be careful of a lot of times. Trust me, we know the rip off ones that do that and I won%26#39;t even mention them here to a soul unless I see them asking about a place and only then! It%26#39;s a lot like Chauncey Creek here, relaxed, with picnic tables and you bring your own drinks in a cooler. Brown%26#39;s wants you to buy there soda though that%26#39;s the only thing. Other than that, if you brought a bottle of wine there? They%26#39;d be fine with that, a lot of people bring there own beer, wine or champagne to either here or Chauncey Creek with there table cloths and there own condiments a lot of times, they%26#39;re priceless.

Newick%26#39;s in Dover, NH 603 742-3206 OR So. Ptld, ME location at 207 799-3090 is fantastic too. I believe they have other locations as well, this is a great spot, it%26#39;s a huge restaurant with red and white tablecloths and they use paper plates etc...very good spot to go to for lobsters and seafood. They do a great business and a fantastic job of serving and cooking seafood, they%26#39;re very well known and are very popular.

If you%26#39;re in Boston check out Legal Seafoods at either Park Sq. Kendall Sq., and any of there other locations, They%26#39;re fantastic and are very consistent and quite good.

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get a lot of different ideas and places, these are my picks for great spots for lobster, you won%26#39;t have ANY trouble finding any of these! Just ask people if you get lost in the towns! Every one knows where they are!

Have fun!

In Boston, I like Jasper White%26#39;s Summer Shack (by Alewife T station) in Cambridge for fresh lobster an lobster rolls. Also any location of Legal Seafoods has incredible fresh seafood prepared in many creative and basic ways.

Out of town? - go north to Maine. In the Kennebunkport area there%26#39;s Allison%26#39;s and Mabel%26#39;s for great lobster.

YUMM! Making me hungry for lobster.

A place a bit closer to Boston with a ';lobster in the ruff'; atmosphere is Woodman%26#39;s on Route 133 in Essex... about 40 miles northeast of Boston on Cape Ann. From Rte 128, there is an exit for 133... then head West for a couple miles. It%26#39;s on the left as you get into the town center. Just before you get to Woodman%26#39;s, you will pass Farnham%26#39;s on the right... a FANTASTIC place for fried clams and chowder. They also have lobster.

In Boston, I like the seafood at The Barking Crab and Legal. While Legal can be pricey, the Barking Crab is more casual and less expensive. The best location of Legal (it%26#39;s a chain) is in Park Square. I won%26#39;t vouch for any of the ';satellite'; locations. The Barking Crab is on the Fort Point Channel near South Station. While Jasper White%26#39;s has its fans, it seems to be more popular with non-locals, and its fare is not to be confused with traditional New England specialties, though the ingredients may be local.

If the suburbs you are staying in are anywhere on the North Shore, the pizza at the Riverview in Ipswich can%26#39;t be beat... very possibly a subconscious influence on my decision to move here.

At least once, try the lobster rolls (and other seafood) at:

Belle Isle Lobster

1267 Saratoga St.

East Boston

(617) 567-1619

It will be difficult not to come back. It is mainly a take out place with limited seating, totally unpretentious. The seafood is very fresh, obtained daily at the fish pier. Portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. The lobster roll is 1/2 pound of lobster meat, only. Favorite of locals. Best to take a taxi.

Details:

Belle Isle Lobster %26amp; Seafood is a carry out place that dishes up an American cuisine dominated by lobster and seafood. Expect the average entrée to cost from $12 to $20.

There is also a Jasper White%26#39;s Summer Shack at 50 Dalton Street right by the Pru. I agree, they do have a great lobster roll!
