Things to do near the TD Banknorth Garden

Hello,

I will be attending a concert at the garden next month and i%26#39;m not really familiar with that part of Boston. I was wondering if there are bars and restaurants or places to shop near the garden. I%26#39;m hoping to make a day of it and spend the entire day in Boston, so any help with which places to check out while i%26#39;m there is appreciated.

Thanks!

Casey

Things to do near the TD Banknorth Garden

The Garden sits in this interesting merge between the old West End and the North End. Neither here nor there, it%26#39;s sort of an in between.

There isn%26#39;t much shopping to be had in that section, except for Hilton%26#39;s Tent City. Hilton%26#39;s is a camper%26#39;s/outdoorsperson%26#39;s mecca. It%26#39;s the best place to get gear. I love it.

Bars and restaurants abound, with The Harp, the Fours and The Grand Canal all places to go before and after an event at the Garden. Don%26#39;t forget about Halftime Pizza - YUM!

If you walk up Causeway to the four way intersection (Merrimack, Lomasney, Staniford and Causeway) walk up Staniford to the top. To your left will be Government Center, to your right will be Beacon Hill. Walk down Cambridge Street and turn left onto Charles at the CVS. There are galleries and shops galore. Enjoy!

Don%26#39;t forget that the North End is within very easy walking distance to the Garden, so you can check that out before the concert and even have dinner or get coffee and dessert afterwards. There are three pretty close shopping areas: Downtown Crossing, which is o.k., but would probably only provide an hour or two at the very most (It has DSW, Express, Sketchers, H%26amp;M, Filene%26#39;s and a bunch of other things) - you can get there on the Orange Line from North Station; the Cambridge Side Galleria at Lechmere, which is a decent, affordable mall - you can get there by bus from North Station; and Faneuil Hall, which is a 10-12 minute walk or so from North Station or you can take the Green line to Gov%26#39;t Center. You are also very close to the Science Museum, the Aquarium and the State House.

Other than that, I echo the previous poster on the bar situation and also highly recommend the Grand Canal, which is great not just for drinks but really good food as well.

Hi,

As far as shopping and things like that, Faneuil Hall Market is only a short 10 minute walk from the Garden, and there%26#39;s plenty to wander around there and see. The Museum of Science is also a good recommendation that%26#39;s very close by.

Really, you can just come in to Boston and go whereever and then take the T to the Garden for the concert. Wander around Newbury St., go to the Prudential Center mall, Copley Place mall, go to the Museum of Fine Arts, then take the Green line directly to North Station/Banknorth Garden.

As for restaurants, along Canal St., there are a few which are good. Boston Beer Works and Hurricane O%26#39;Reilly%26#39;s are good places to go to drink and have some casual food, like burgers, pasta or sandwiches.

For more upscale, there%26#39;s a good restaurant on Merrimac St. called Anthem, which is where the Commonwealth Brew pub used to be. It%26#39;s very good food and a nice atmosphere. Also, the Angus Steak House at the Bullfinch hotel on Merrimac St. is very good (but a bit pricey).

Its still a neighborhood that needs work.

The Fours is great for steak tip sandwhich called the Bobby Orr.

I would go to the Last Hurrah before and walk thru the Parker House for a great look at history. They have great food and it will be easier to be seated and get out on time as the Fours will be jammed and crowded before the concert.

Its a 10 minute walk to the Garden and you walk right past Fanueil Hall to go to the Garden.

Hi, I decided to join this post as I will also be near the Garden in a couple of weeks. We (my wifeand I and another couple all early 30%26#39;s) will be attending a hockey game, basketball game and a concert at the Axis club. What I think I really want to know is a place for a great light breakfast with good coffee. I was in Boston in the summer, so I think I can find a bar to go to, but if anyone can suggest a not too loud (and not too touristy) place to hang out, I%26#39;m open to suggestion.
