Dicks Last Resort

Hi - we%26#39;re from England and planning a three day stopover in Boston soon. We have two teenagers aged 17 and 15 and have read some good reviews about the restaurant %26#39;Dicks Last Resort%26#39; Do you think it would be OK for us to take our kids there for the evening? Sounds like just the sort of atmosphere we would all enjoy and I haven%26#39;t read anywhere that you have to be over 21??

Dicks Last Resort

The food is okay but not excellent, the staff is rambunctious and sometimes the language is a little salty. Long tables, so you may be packed in next to total strangers. Loud, party atmosphere, live music - the kids would probably love it. They serve alcohol, but kids are okay if accompanied by adults.

If I remember correctly, the restrooms are wall-papered with mildly indecent pix of girls/Chippendales candidates though...

Dicks Last Resort

I don%26#39;t know what happened to the post I just tried to put up here... sorry if this is a duplicate... but basically, don%26#39;t do the Last Resort. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s a pleasant place, it%26#39;s very drink-heavy, and it%26#39;s a national chain so it%26#39;s not special to Boston. Right upstairs from it (literally) is Legal Seafood, which is local and has great food in a comfortable atmosphere. I would suggest, best of all for your situation, Fire and Ice Improvisational Grill, which is in both the Back Bay (not too far from Legal%26#39;s) and its original location in Harvard Square.

You should not take your kids there unless you want them to witness a bunch of bachelor and bachelorette parties with big public display of unmentionable things going on. They do let people underage sit outside and eat...not sure if they are allowed inside or not. I think it is an over-rated tourist trap to be honest with you.

Thanks for all your replies! It was the fact that they have live music that caught my eye, and I%26#39;m sure the kids would love the party atmosphere, but I don%26#39;t want to take them if we have to sit outside, or if their presence would make others feel uncomfortable. Anyone know of anywhere else that has live music and would let my teenagers in? We%26#39;ll be staying in Broad Street. Thanks again!

Last Resort is extremely cheesy and tasteless. It surprises me that young people are allowed inside, as it definitely caters to a raunchy, fall-down-drunk crowd. The staff is also extremely rude - on purpose. It%26#39;s a total dive with none of the charm of many dive bars.

I%26#39;ve never tried it myself, but I%26#39;ve heard that Medieval Manor is a fun, unique place. It%26#39;s a medieval-themed dinner/show, where you eat with your hands. It%26#39;s probably not for young kids, but I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s too rowdy (kids can get in accompanied by an adult). Maybe someone who has actually been could give a better review.

Straight out of the Blues Brothers - loved it

Food staff drink fun - we had three kids with out party and they loved it - never thought it was bad taste

Wow, I just got of the phone with someone that said TO take my kids there. Well, I will rethinking my plans. Thanks all for the warnings.

The Barking Crab features live musicians on weekends and is a fun place to hang out. If temperatures permit, you can eat at picnic tables under a big tent overlooking the Fort Point Channel.

Fire + Ice is also a good suggestion, but I wouldn%26#39;t go to D-ck%26#39;s even as a last resort (LOL.)

Hello MrsP,

Like the previous posters said? Places like Fire %26amp; Ice is wonderful and a great idea for dinner one night, they%26#39;d love it and the show Blueman Group or dinner at Legal Seafoods; even hanging out at the Pru shops and going to Turner%26#39;s Fisheries or any of those places at Copley Place would be really fun for them. I brought my nieces and nephews in to Boston one afternoon when they were off and you know what they absolutely loved? The movie theater on Tremont Street in downtown Boston! They thought that was just unbelievable, they loved it! To tell you the truth? I did too! It%26#39;s set up like Disney World in that place, it%26#39;s awesome, we don%26#39;t have one like that in New Hampshire so it was a real treat being there for all of us! Or you could see if there%26#39;s any dinner shows in Boston online? Forget about taking your two teens to Dicks Last Resort MrsP, seriously. My 6 nieces and nephews are that age and would hate sitting through that type of night, trust me! I%26#39;m sure at your kids ages they%26#39;d be the same way; because it doesn%26#39;t matter where they%26#39;re from, they%26#39;re all basically like that as teenagers, we all were I suppose (I don%26#39;t remember do you???!!!!) Boston is a wonderful City and there%26#39;s really so much to see and do, the Duck Boats, the NE Aquarium, they%26#39;d love the Quincy Market shops and walking all through them and seeing all the different sights and one man shows they put on!

Have Fun!

The Medieval Manor is definitely a lot of fun, but the atmosphere is slightly risque (think PG-13). They are very careful about the amount of drinking going on, so people are generally well behaved. I%26#39;ve always had a lot of fun going there.

Another place which would be fun would be King%26#39;s, in the Back Bay. It%26#39;s a combination gourmet restaurant and bowling alley, and it%26#39;s a very hot place to be right now.
