Boston Report back

Hi everyone,

Just returned from a trip to Boston to celebrate my ';significant'; birthday.

We arrived on Thursday at lunch time, the weather was just wonderful, a bit humid but the sky was blue and the sun was shining.

We arrived at the airport and took the courtesy shuttle bus to the T, which cost- $1.25 each, you can%26#39;t get better than that.

Our hotel, the Omni Parker House was just up from Government Centre and it was so easy to get to. Hotel was great, despite what I had previously read.

Some of the things we did were:-

Walked the Freedom Trail, including walking up the 200+ steps to get to the top of the tower at the Bunker Hill Monument from which there were great views of the city.

Of course we went to Cheers, on Beacon Hill, had lunch, took photographs, it was great, don%26#39;t forget to go to Quincy market, where there is another Cheers bar (with the inside as seen on TV).

Quincy market is a great place to wander around, especially lunchtimes, there are great places to eat.... and shop.

Just across the road from the market, if you have time, jump on the ferry $6 round trip, takes over an hour and you get some great views of the city.

We went to Salem, had a visit to the ';Witch Museum'; and had a walk around the town itself. We got the train out to Salem, it took about half an hour.

We walked on Boston Common and went to the Prudential Building Skywalk observatory (which was not open!) but what a brilliant shopping centre, make sure you go there and see the designer shops (including Tiffany%26#39;s).

We did so much walking that in the evenings we were absolutely shattered and just went down to the bar in the hotel which serves the most wonderful Clam Chowder (Chowda).

There are so many fascinating things to see in Boston, it is a great place to visit. My advice would be to do the Freedom Trail and then you get the chance to see most districts, you can go back and re-visit them if you want.

We had a great time, the city is wonderful, the people are really friendly and seem to take a great pride in their city. All in all a memorable birthday!
