I%26#39;m going to Boston this weekend and was thinking of going to the Cape for one night. Is it worth it? Can I get there by ferry or bus and where is the best place to go? I%26#39;ve been to Provincetown and would prefer Hyannis or Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, but I%26#39;m not familiar with how to get there or if it%26#39;s close enough to go for one night (or would it be too much trouble).
Thanks for the advice.
one night on the Cape?
Hi kit12,
If that%26#39;s what you really want to do; is travel down to Cape Cod then that%26#39;s what you should do, it%26#39;s only 70 miles from Boston and about an hour and a half, which isn%26#39;t too bad. If you%26#39;re not going to rent a car you can take the bus down from South Station right to Hyannis and spend the day there. You can check out the thread from today that says ';Chatham Off Season'; and on it there%26#39;s information about Hyannis and what to see and do while you%26#39;re there. It%26#39;s off-season down the Cape now remember that, but there%26#39;s still some places open, alot of people really like the Cape this time of year. Even though you%26#39;re going to be there this weekend, there%26#39;s a very interesting Museum that%26#39;s having a fantastic exhibit starting October 27th, it%26#39;s actually going to have information there now for this particular exhibit. Go to this thread I mentioned here and you%26#39;ll read more about it.
You can also rent a car from Avis, there%26#39;s an office at Government Center for them. It%26#39;s roughly $50 a day for a car which isn%26#39;t too bad. You can call
617 534-1400 if you decide to do that.
Either way it%26#39;s up to you, have a great time, I think it%26#39;s going to be okay weather wise this weekend, just rain again on Sunday. Go to www.weatherchannel.com and you%26#39;ll see the forecast for the next several days; that should help you make your decision with your plans as well.
Have a great trip!
one night on the Cape?
You can take a bus that leaves from South Station right into Hyannis, or a ferry to Provincetown. Check online at bostonharborcruises.com to see if there%26#39;s a Fall schedule. The Plymouth and Brockton bus lines runs daily trips between Boston and Hyannis.
I would recommend driving so that you can go to other more off the beaten track places on the Cape. I am a huge fan of Truro, and especially at this time of year it is deserted and windswept - what the Cape was for many years before being %26#39;discovered%26#39;. Wellfleet and Eastham have some neat places and you could take advantage of off-season rates for one night.
The Vineyard is really something that is best done for a weekend. Between driving to Hyannis and getting the ferry, your day is used up.
The latest weather report indicates rain for Saturday and Sunday. If accurate, then in my opinion it would not be worthwhile or enjoyable to travel to and spend a night on Cape Cod.
Thanks to all that responded. I%26#39;ve decided to just stay in the city since I%26#39;m not renting a car and would really like to spend a little more time out on the Cape. Next trip!
