Driving directions from New Jersey

Will be heading to Foxboro from NJ on Friday Oct 28 mid afternoon.(3ish) Now that the summer traffic has hopefully subsided, can anyone who has driven recently give an update on traffic? Pondering going 84 to Mass pike to 495 or 95N. Suggestions?

Thank you,

Hi Low Tide Guy,

I went to Mohegan in CONN last week over night on a Thursday and we didn%26#39;t have any problem. I was wondering myself how it was going to be and it worked out great; as far as driving down there and going through Boston, because I had to stop and pick up friends and we were right on that southeast expressway. It was a breeze after all that! Smooth sailing all the way down, I couldn%26#39;t believe it, we didn%26#39;t have any trouble at all.

Coming home was another story; BUT it was our own fault! We had to stop here there and everywhere, the Providence Mall, the South Shore Mall etc...so I didn%26#39;t get up to NH until 7 that night because of the Friday afternoon crazy traffic heading NORTH.

If you say that 3:00 is when you%26#39;re going to be travelling on 95 etc...then it%26#39;s fine! But any time between I%26#39;d say possibly 4 or 4:30 until 6? Forget it, with the traffic especially if it%26#39;s raining, I don%26#39;t know WHAT it is with rain, every one in creation is out there and there%26#39;s always tie ups in rainy weather around here!

With the newer bridges and tunnels though I can see a difference; I don%26#39;t know if any one else can, but I find at least the traffic MOVES along now more than before! You%26#39;ll see the difference and be surprised too!

Good luck and have fun!

NoMo thank you for your take. I noticed you were an expert on Boston. Having grown up myself in one of the suburbs years ago my current knowledge is limited. I have a friend-age 30, who will be visiting for a short vacation the end of the month with his girl friend. I turned him on to this site. He%26#39;s kind of shy and not sure if he has posted yet. Not sure where he is staying-downtown I%26#39;m sure. What are some activities you can suggest. I realize where they are lodging probably would help. They have a car. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hi Low Tide Guy,

That depends on where he%26#39;s staying, especially where it%26#39;s been getting chilly at night. They might not want to walk all over town, you know? If they were staying at the Copley Place and Pru area, there%26#39;s quite a lot for there age group, in fact, that%26#39;s where you might want to tell them to go any way, it%26#39;s a must-see while in Boston! They%26#39;re going to love it when they see it all. Copley Place is absolutely beautiful now with all kinds of shops, restaurants and a sky walk that brings you over to the Pru shops. It%26#39;s great with even more shops and places to explore over there. Walking from there is Boylston St and Newbury St which as you know or can remember has loads of interesting restaurants, cafes, bistros, pubs and shops to explore.

As far as Irish pubs in Boston, you have no idea how many there are now, they%26#39;re everywhere! More than when I was in my 20%26#39;s! We had the Purple Shamrock, the Black Rose and ';Southie and Dot'; that%26#39;s IT! We made the Farraghut House in Southie our Irish Pub when I was in that age group! Now they%26#39;re here there and everywhere you look! All over the City of Boston! If you have them go in to www.BostonIrishPubs.com they can take their pick of pubs to go to, they%26#39;re all doing a terrific business these days! Down around North Station there seems to be quite a lot of them as well as in through the Quincy Market.

Southie%26#39;s Broadway is lined up now with pubs up and down the strip, you can literally walk from one to the other, it%26#39;s great, as it gets closer to St. Patrick%26#39;s Day of course!

Your friends won%26#39;t have any problems finding places to have a great time in this City, they%26#39;re going to love it!

Make sure you tell them to squeeze in a City Tour on the trolley! Have them check out www.gobostoncard.com it%26#39;ll be well worth it for them! They will really enjoy seeing Charles St. as well as Beacon Hill in Boston while they%26#39;re here!

Thanks NoMo-I sent him info. Pubs will probably be his bag, maybe not hers.

L.T.G...

Have driven from Morristown/Chester to Ma. several times. It%26#39;s not the bear it appears to be - - even with CT traffic on I-95.

I would do this:

In NJ: I-287 North to NYS

In NY: U-TURN in Rockland to I-87

south / I-287 east to TZ bridge

In Westchester: I-684 north to I-84 east

In CT: into %26amp; out of Hartford

In MA: I-90 east

---------------------------------------------

OR:

Go to Ft. Lee %26amp; turn right I-95 to I-91

(in) New haven %26amp; turn left I-91 to I-90

(in) Springfield %26amp; turn right I-90 ea.

Good Luck
