Thinking of Boston for next Oct.

If we don%26#39;t go out west next July then I want to go to Boston. I would also like to go to Salem. It would be the first week of Oct. I would like some ideas on where to stay. I don%26#39;t want to pay much over 100$ a night. Is it better to stay outside of Boston or in. Also how far is Salem? I%26#39;m interested in the history. Thanks!

there are many threads here on october and on salem -- search ';salem.'; salem is a much-recommended ';see'; near Boston. a 35 min. drive also accessible by local commuter rail. lots to do/see there.... even us ';locals'; go there for a day-trip often. for less than $100/night, you%26#39;re prolly just outside boston, but anywhere within Rte. 128 (see map) is very easy by public transport. october is a beautiful time of year -- not cold, not hot, can be rainy -- and/but very changeable weather. again, see other threads from lately.

For general information on Salem, MA in the Halloween period try:

If you decide to spend a night in Salem, then for hotels try:

The Hawthorne Hotel or the Best Western Salem Waterfront Hotel

Salem is a really nice community. If you go be sure to take a tour of the House of the Seven Gables. We had a really great tour guide who kept everyone (including a 5 year old, an 8 year old and a 9 year old) absolutely fascinated for an hour or so.
