We stayed at the Apple Tree Inn because it was closest to Tanglewood and we thought we would be able to walk to the concerts. It turned out that the Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood was about a mile from the Inn, and we were walking at the side of the road with no sidewalks in the blackness of night with only the lights from passing traffic to light our way. There is also a significant hill to climb on the way up to the Inn. After the first night, we drove to the rest of the concerts.
The Inn is a converted house. The floors and stairs for the first two floors have no carpeting and it%26#39;s noisy when people walk around. The stairs to the third floor are steep. There is no elevator.
A cold breakfast buffet is provided but it is what you would get in an Econo Lodge: coffee, individual boxes of cold cereal, juice, fruit, and muffins; not what you expect from an expensive bed and breakfast. (Our room with two beds was just under $250/night.)
We stayed in two different rooms. Neither of them had anywhere in the bathroom to put shaving and cosmetic kits except on the floor next to the toilet and plunger.
The rooms had maintenance problems that were not addressed while we were there: absent calking around the tub, missing knob to secure the window%26#39;s blind in an open position,
We found the inn keeper to be lacking in people skills.
We would not stay here again and cannot recommend this place.

We checked into the hotel and were put into the lodge in season for $199. It was a disgusting room and when we reported it, there was NO remorse or response.
We went to another hotel where we were treated better and got a much better room for the same price. The Apple Tree Inn charged us anyway (we booked the day before) even though we didn%26#39;t stay there (they claimed after the fact that they would have moved us). I called to try to work it out and the owner was unresponsive to my calls. Finally she called me back and was just as unresponsive as the staff.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. From the outside, the property and the buildings are fine. That%26#39;s about the best I can say.

Oh god..I wish I read this before I booked my room for next week. We are staying there Sept. 30.

We have booked the Appletree for Columbus Day Weekend and after googling and asking Jeeves, we have found a few reviews that seem to suggest it is much better than the two above posts suggest. And c%26#39;mon, no knob on the blind? absent caulking? If that%26#39;s the worst that can be found, I%26#39;m not worried. And by the way, most structures built prior to 1900 do not have elevators, nor do they need them. If you want quiet carpeted floors and an elevator, go to the Sheraton.
Well, we stayed at the Apple Tree Inn over the Columbus Day weekend. It poured nonstop the whole time - the only saving grace was the Inn. It is beautifully furnished, our room was cozy with firm mattresses, skylight, and ample storage space for clothes and luggage. Are there some drawbacks? Yes. The breakfast was meager compared to other Inns we have stayed out, and there were no afternoon refreshments except for coffee/tea. Oh yeah, the sink in the bathroom had separate faucets for hot/cold - that was a drag. However, the fireplace was going the entire time we were there and I saw the owner provide champagne to a couple celebrating their 40th. It actually has a good location - very close to Tanglewood and downtown Lenox. I thought it was a decent value for the money. We paid $525 for 3 nights for a with 2 double beds - we have 2 children.
