Hi All,
Hubby and I are coming to Boston at the end of November. I am trying to sort out our itinery and need to know how long we need in the following Museums
Harvard Natural History Museum
MIT Museum
JFK Museum and Library
Science Museum
USS Constitution and Museum
Can anyonidea of how long each will take to go round?
Thanks Sarah
Museums - how long do we need in each??
I will let other posters reply to those museums about which you inquired but I do recommend that you visit the Museum of Fine Arts,(MFA), and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum if you enjoy fine art. Both are exquisite. The former will require a full day and the latter about a half day of your time.

As always it depends on the individual as to how in depth they like to go at any exhibit. Of the museums you have listed, I would most likely spend the most time at the Museum of Science (in addition to exhibits there are shows--planetarium, imax-- they have to offer so you could easily spend an entire day. I%26#39;ve done the JFK Museum in about a 3 hour span. Have been to the MIT Museum which is small. I%26#39;d say an hour and a half or two at absolutely most. USS Constitution, went years ago, didn%26#39;t catch my interest, spent maybe one hour. Have not been to the others mentioned, but do not believe they would consume a lot of time. (I think going to the Museum of Fine Arts as previously posted is a wonderful idea). You could check the individual websites to get a better handle on it. Good luck!
Thanks both,
As you can see from our choices we enjoy the sciences!! Not really art fans I am afraid!
But you have given me a guide!
Thanks Sarah
Hi Sarahms,
If you are interested in science, you should not miss the glass flower exhibit at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. It%26#39;s a one-of-a-kind thing that will blow you away.
There%26#39;s a description of the exhibit here:
…harvard.edu/exhibitions/glassflowers.html
It%26#39;s really spectacular, and you should leave at least a couple of hours to view it.
I went to the JFK museum expecting to spend a couple of hours there, I actually ended up spending almost the whole day, it was fascinating. Science museum too could easily take up at least half a day.
Harvard Natural History Museum - Have not been
MIT Museum - 2 -3 hours. Be sure to see the section on their pranks
JFK Museum and Library - Have not been
Science Museum - all day, especially if you do IMAX, Planetarium and the special shows. Be sure to catch the electrical demonstration.
USS Constitution and Museum - 2 -3 hours. You could wait 30 mins to get in as they limit the number of people on the tour.
MFA - 1/2 day
Thanks everyone - your replies have given me a good idea of timescales....... now I can get back to that all important itinerary scheduling which drives my Husband mad!!
Sarah
Each museums offers something a little different for every person. Right now the Museum of Science has a star wars exhibit (starting this weekend) and the MFA features Ansley Adams photos. And you could spend all day looking at the permanent exhibits
If I were you I would consider getting a card like the Go Boston Card for admission to the museums, that way if a museum doesn%26#39;t appeal to you, you can just take a spin around--and know that you%26#39;re not wasting money because you have the card (gets you into all of the museums you listed for much cheaper than you would pay for all of them)
Sarah,
If you%26#39;re only going to those five attractions (or even if you add another museum or two), I would NOT recommend the Go Boston card. It will cost more for the card than to pay the individual admission prices. It%26#39;s only $37.50 to visit all five, compared with prices of $45 and up for the Go card (and the more days you need, the more that card will cost!)
I would think you%26#39;d need one to three hours for each museum, depending on what you%26#39;re most interested in.
Boston Duck Tours are lots of fun, but they usually end Thanksgiving weekend. A trolley tour can be great fun too. You%26#39;ll see the city and learn lots of little tidbits about its history, people, buildings, etc.
Have a great time!
Thanks Everyone!
I did check the cost of the GoBoston card for what we would want to use it for and because we would need a 5 day pass it is cheaper to ';pay as we go'; - but thanks for pointing me in the direction so I could check it out.
I am getting really excited now! Arriving on 25th Nov so planning the Duck Tour on Saturday 26th - they end on 27th so we are getting there just in time!!
