I am coming to the USA with my husband from the UK at the end of October. We will be visiting Boston for the first time but I think we will only get possibly only one day there. Can anyone tell me if the JFK Museum is any where near the Freedom Trail as I would very much like to visit both.
Is JFK Museum near Freedom Trail
The Freedom Trail (which is 2 and a half miles long) is located in Downtown Boston while the JFK Library is in Dorchester (which is a part of Boston to the south)( I%26#39;m guestimating its about 5 miles away). You don%26#39;t mention where you%26#39;ll be staying or if you have access to a car so it is hard to answer your question. Could you see some of both in one day? Most likely yes. It is a question of how in-depth you would like your visit to be. To get to the JFK by public transporation you can easily hop on the red line to the JFK/UMASS Station. At the station take free shuttle bus to library. Buses run every 20 minutes between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Buses are marked JFK. Hope you enjoy our city!

Thank you for your help. Have not finalised our hotel as yet, but we will have access to a car. Is the traffic in Boston bad?
Hello GillUK,
Actually it depends on the time of day that you plan on driving in Boston. For instance early in the morning it%26#39;s a madhouse with people getting in to there jobs. It slows down around 9 to 9:30. So if I were you that%26#39;s your best bet go in the late morning; make sure you%26#39;re heading to the JFK Library at a time when it slows down with traffic.
As an alternative you know you don%26#39;t have to even bother going on the Southeast Expressway or highway to get to the JFK Library if you end up driving to it.
As an alternative, it%26#39;ll be much easier and less stressful if you could get yourself to South Station at Summer St. in downtown Boston. Here you%26#39;ll have the Federal Reserve Bank Building on the opposite side and in between this and South Station is Summer St. you just have to drive straight down exactly 2 miles and you%26#39;ll be at L St. in South Boston where you just continue on your way straight ahead until facing you will be the L St. Bathhouse at this point from South Station you only went 2 miles. At this light at this corner where facing you is the L St. Bathhouse you then just take a right and you%26#39;ll be along Carson Beach; if you look out on the water you%26#39;ll get a beautiful view of The JFK Library, Carson Beach and Dorchester Bay. It%26#39;s a beautiful view from here. Then you continue until facing you will be a set of lights and a rotary (A roundabout!) and you go completely around it not straight ahead but around the whole rotary until you see ramp for Morrissey Blvd. you continue on this and you%26#39;ll see the Boston Globe Office on your right just ahead after the ramp. You continue until facing you will be on the left the University of Massachusetts (UMASS). Take this left and go all the way past the University and you%26#39;ll be all along Dorchester Bay here, you%26#39;ll look across and see Marina Bay from here it%26#39;s really pretty! Keep going in here and that%26#39;s the JFK Library you can%26#39;t miss it!
It has free parking; you%26#39;ll see the National Archives %26amp; Records Administration building first, between UMASS and the JFK Library. Just continue in to park in front of the JFK Library.
On October 26th there%26#39;s a Children%26#39;s book signing with Caroline Kennedy that every one is talking about. It%26#39;s her 2nd book of poetry for Children that she%26#39;s signing! I%26#39;m pretty sure you can get the book in the Gift Shop because that%26#39;s how I got the 1st one!
Good luck!
I hate to admit it since I am a true blue Bostonian but driving in the city is challenging. NoMo is right. Avoid driving during rush hour at all cost!!!
I have an even better idea. Leave the car and take the Red Line to JFK/Umass stop, and then take the free shuttle bus to the museum campus, or even take a taxi from the T station to the museum. It will be much easier on your nerves than trying to drive in Boston at any time of the day.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me this detailed information. I am finding it most helpful. I appreciate it.
I was just in Boston the last weekend of September and went to the Kennedy Museum. We took the ';T'; and then walked directly to the shuttle bus. From Back Bay, the whole trip took about 40 minutes including switching lines and walking to the shuttle. It is well worth the time. We ended up spending almost two hours at the museum when we were only planning on spending 45 minutes to an hour.I am a little bias though, because the Kennedy era is one of my favorite periods in history :-), but my brother is not and he enjoyed it just as much. It was great! Hope you have fun!
