Anyone know about the West Street Grill?

Any comments on the West Street Grill - at 15 West Street, near the Opera House?

Anyone know about the West Street Grill?

Hi NKB,

Isn%26#39;t that funny you mention that place!

Last week my friends and I went to the Loew%26#39;s Theater on Tremont St and we walked all in through this area; it%26#39;s so retro all in through that area now where that Opera House is, it%26#39;s quite the place and we went right by that West Street Grill in our little walk! They were saying that that%26#39;s where a lot of the parties were for the Democratic National Convention held in Boston last year.

I%26#39;ve never been there; but I%26#39;ll tell you it%26#39;s a HOT spot from what they%26#39;re saying! The place has a few floors for lunch, dinner and dancing as well. I%26#39;m checking it out one of these days myself!

Anyone know about the West Street Grill?

Are you planning on eating there or just drinking? In my opinion, the food is overpriced and you could do better. As far as the bar scene goes, I haven%26#39;t been there in a couple of years, but it was decent back then for those in their early to mid-twenties. They used to have this great bartender who was worth the price of admission to watch, but I don%26#39;t think he works there anymore. It becomes kind of a cheesy dance scene on weekend nights. All in all, not bad, but not really one of the places that comes to mind when I%26#39;m making recommendations. I did have an event there once though, and I thought they did a good job.

Thank you for your comments.

Celebrien: If you wouldn%26#39;t recommend West Street Grill, what would you recommend for dinner around 6 pm after the Billy Crystal show on Saturday? Walking distance preferred. Thanks!

Good morning NKB,

My friends in town are saying that that West Street Grill is good for the lunch crew that it gets crazy late at night with a younger age group because it%26#39;s a club as well, so that%26#39;s OUT now for us too! If I were in town during the day I might try it for lunch that%26#39;s about it, if we were up near that area again.

If we were at the Opera House we%26#39;d either walk up to that Tremont 647 because we%26#39;re so curious about it and would want to try it or we%26#39;d walk down around the Quincy Market and go to Houston%26#39;s at 60 State St., that%26#39;s consistent and a fun place to go, we like the food there. You%26#39;re getting out from the Show at a good time to walk down that way, it wouldn%26#39;t be a far walk at all.

Another place---if it%26#39;s too crowded at Houston%26#39;s we want to try is that Scollay Square Restaurant at 21 Beacon St., and from the Opera House you just go right up to Park St then up on to Beacon St., near the Omni Parker House it%26#39;s not even a 10 minute walk to get up through there. That%26#39;s what my friends and I would do if we were in town trying to figure out where to have dinner after that show!

You got tickets for it you lucky thing! We tried and it was sold out. That%26#39;s going to be a ';GOOD ONE';!!!!

Have a great time I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll get a few more suggestions here for this one!

Have fun!

NKB, I think it really depends on what you%26#39;re looking for. I%26#39;ve also heard wonderful things about Scollay Square and can%26#39;t wait to try it, and it%26#39;s not a bad walk at all from the Opera House. If you don%26#39;t mind spending serious money, Spire in the Nine Zero Hotel very close to Scollay Square is supposed to be fantastic. In Downtown Crossing, there%26#39;s an Italian place called Marliave that serves very good, inexpensive Italian in an elegant setting - it was a favorite of Governor Cellucci. In the Theatre District, you%26#39;re just outside of Chinatown. I%26#39;m not a Chinatown expert, but I%26#39;ve read recommendations for Peach Farm, Grand Chau Chow, China Pearl and Penang, among others. Staying inside the Theatre District, you%26#39;re very close to P.F. Chang%26#39;s, which is a great, non-authentic, gourmet Chinese place, upscale atmosphere. There%26#39;s also Maggiano%26#39;s for Italian, which I%26#39;ve seen recommended many times here, but I%26#39;ve never been myself. Montien is a sushi/Thai place, which again, I%26#39;ve never tried, but about which I%26#39;ve heard nothing but great things. One of my absolute favorite places is the Parish Cafe on Boylston, which serves gourmet sandwiches and salads and has a huge beer list, it%26#39;s wonderful. I don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;ve been helpful or just given you too many things to think about! If you have a specific idea about the kind of thing you%26#39;re looking for, let us know!

Thanks to everyone for your replies and recommendations. We may venture to Scollay Square... as long as the weather cooperates.
