Best hotel for Nyear

Hello SLWATKINS,

Where you stay depends on what you want to be closer to, the various beautiful ice sculptures in Boston and all the art and parades and colorful activities going on right in town or do you want to just be back at your hotel; so you can watch the fireworks over Boston Harbor? That%26#39;s something you%26#39;ll have to think about and consider before making your plans and yes book this as soon as you can because it%26#39;s a very popular time of year to be right in Boston that week!

Things to remember and consider, most of the time on New Years Eve it%26#39;s absolutely freezing out. I went to 3 First Nights and never thought I%26#39;d get warm again! I even had a fur coat on one year and it was still brutally cold, if you don%26#39;t mind it at all then be my guest! Probably because the year we were out there it was close to below 0 that year! So remember that SLWATKINS; it%26#39;s really really cold on New Years Even night walking all around the City of Boston! If you don%26#39;t mind, then just remember to dress in layers and go for it! You get right out there and have a good time for yourself like the thousands of other ones out there; while the rest of us watch it all on TV at home!

I can tell you what we did one year; which was fun and it ended up being a very memorable fun time. We only cared about the fireworks over Boston Harbor, so we were on a mission to stay somewhere WARM where we could just see those beautiful fireworks; so a whole group of us stayed at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel at Logan Airport!

it%26#39;s located at 101 Harborside Drive, it%26#39;s probably the prettiest hotel at that airport!

It was unbelievable because no matter where you looked you were looking out at the Boston Skyline and Boston Harbor from this wonderful Hotel. It was really great, because we didn%26#39;t want to be out in the freezing cold watching it! What a beautiful view from there that we had! It was the high light of the whole night seeing those gorgeous fireworks from that place!

There%26#39;s a website that you should check in the next couple of weeks before you arrive. Go to www.firstnight.org and it%26#39;ll give you the various plans for the downtown and uptown Boston locations that they have decided on for the 2006 First Night.

Another idea that you might want to think about instead of staying at a Hotel a lot of people really really like the Boston Yacht Haven at 87 Commercial Wharf in Boston, it%26#39;s running roughly $237 a night. You could see about that? It%26#39;s got unbelievable views over the Harbor here as well. It%26#39;s listed on the www.bedandbreakfasts.com site and also you can take a look at it here....

www.bostonyachthaven.com

You could try the bidding process...

If you go to www.betterbidding.com or www.biddingfortravel.com then www.priceline.com you might luck out with this process because a lot of people here are telling us that they really got good rates this way for their stays at the various hotels.

During the day you could always walk through the Quincy Market area and up to the Boston Common to see the ice sculptures and then take the train over to the Back Bay and see everything going on over there. There%26#39;s a lot of different fun ideas for New Years celebrating and people here will give you some of there ideas as well, so keep checking back here from time to time. This is going to be one post that will get a lot of hits because New Years is right around the corner for all of us, and finally, yes book as soon as you can because it%26#39;s very popular now to be right in Boston for New Years celebrating.

Have a WONDERFUL time and enjoy your time here!

nomo had some pretty good tips. If money isn%26#39;t a concern there are plenty of nice places to stay. If you%26#39;re watching the wallet, but still want something decent, check out the Park Plaza. They usually have some good New Year%26#39;s packages for around $179 (or so) a night. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

Hi SLWatkins-

Boston is a great city to come for New Year%26#39;s. It was the first city in the US to hold a ';First Night'; celebration that has since been copied by so many other cities, and it still is the best!

NoMo%26#39;s suggestions for Fireworks viewing were right on. The Hyatt Harborside would have the best views from the comfort of a warm room or viewing area, but I wouldn%26#39;t recommend staying there for the week. A little too inconvenient of a location for daily sightseeing and dining.

The other side of the harbor is where it%26#39;s at.

Of-course, depending on budget, my recommendations are as follows:

For an elegant harborside hotel, the Boston Harbor, pricey but great location and good fireworks viewing (so long as you get a room with waterview.)

For a more moderate harborside accommodation, try the new Residence Inn by Marriott on Tudor Wharf, on the water and across from the North End, historic area and the city%26#39;s ';Little Italy'; - loaded with great Italian restaurants and cafes open till the wee hours.

If you would like to stay more centrally, the Copley Square area, is most convenient. Great shops, restaurants, and of-course alot of First Night activities will be taking place close by, as well as the parade.

The Charlesmark Hotel is a little oasis on Boylston St.

Small European-style hotel - tiny rooms by American standards, but very new, quiet, and GREAT location. Prices are good too for the location. Otherwise, Copley Square Hotel is another alternative. The Lenox, also close -by is more expensive but many of the rooms have fireplaces.

You%26#39;ll have to buy a First Night Button to get into the activities going on all over the city on Dec. 31, but it%26#39;s only a one-time fee of about $15 pp and it can be purchased at a variety of locations - supermarkets, convenience stores, etc.

Enjoy!
