Hotel query

Hi all,

I am visiting Boston from Dec 2 to Dec 10. I have the Hyatt booked for the four nights 6th to 10th. However since I booked the Hyatt ,my girfriend and I have decided to get married in Boston. So as you can imagine we are looking for a pretty nice hotel for the first four nights of that part of our trip. So far I have looked at the Boston Harbour, Wyndham and a couple of more in the general area near Quincy Market, which is my girlfriends favourite part of Boston. Last year we stayed in the Langham which we both really really enjoyed and would in all honesty probably opt to go back to. My query really is does anyone really rate one of the top end hotels in that area about all the others, dont really have a limit on what we spend, well within reason I guess. So any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated in helping to really make the most of that week we spend there.

For that area of Boston and for this VERY special occasion you definitely

should be either at the Boston Harbor Hotel with a Harbor view room or the Langham Hotel as you realize from staying there is quite nice! Did you have dinner at Julien%26#39;s the last time you were at the Langham? It%26#39;s positively WONDERFUL.

Some people on this site prefer the Omni/Parker House for sentimental reasons and because of it%26#39;s proximity also because it%26#39;s a very historical landmark in Boston as well as being in such an ideal location.

The Hyatt in Boston is really in an up and coming area though as well and if you%26#39;re young you would definitely prefer this Hotel to get to all the hot spots.

Good luck in choosing your hotel! I%26#39;ll tell you with me? If I could stay at that Boston Harbor Hotel or the Langham tonight? I would in a heart beat! They%26#39;re both gorgeous hotels!

If you get the chance check out this Hotel on Tremont St., I had dinner at their Spire Restaurant and it was INCREDIBLE. The hotel got a 4 Diamond rating and it%26#39;s quite hip! Check it out to see if you and your fiancee would like to stay here, it%26#39;s within walking distance to the Quincy Market area and the North End for dinner as well as Beacon Hill and the #9 Park Restaurant is right around the corner up near the State House.

Once you get to that level of hotels, they are pretty much all going to be wonderful.

The hotels where the celebrities stay when in Boston are usually either the Four Seasons, or the Ritz-Carleton, Boston Common. Also, many of the very wealthy who want luxury and privacy, will stay at the XV Beacon boutique hotel, on Beacon St.

However, a harbor view suite at the Boston Harbor hotel would be wonderful as well. If you have stayed at the Langham and really enjoyed it, you probably would be safest going back there again.

As you can see, it%26#39;s really a tossup. The decision should be made on what rooms the hotel has available for you on your travel dates, and what other ammenities you want (views, small boutique hotel, or large grande-dame type).

One hotel that consistently has gotten raves both on this site and in the Boston Globe, but no one has mentioned yet, is the Boston Yacht Haven.

I%26#39;m not personally familiar with it... just passing on what Ive read.

Just browsing the site as I go to Boston on 26th Nov and came across your posting. How lovely for you both.

Being Irish (like you!) and being a female I have a bit of an inquisitive streak in me (and I%26#39;m not old enough to have experienced all the valleys of peeping windows in dear old eire!!) but anyway I was looking on your previous postings - as I do when ones attract my attention.

I%26#39;m rambling now - but noticed your past post re arrangements for getting married in Boston and the reply from ???Vistor re the Unitarians. Don%26#39;t know if you have your arrangements made now (I imagine you have) - but if you were interested in that option - the Unitarians have a beautiful Church on St Stephens Green in Dublin who I am sure would put you in contact with colleagues in Boston. They have a beautiful, welcoming community and their cermonies are so personal and thought-provoking. I may be able to provide additional info if you so require - just let me know. It would be an option I certainly would consider if I wasn%26#39;t happly married myself - and I did it the good old Catholic way!!!

Sorry I can%26#39;t help re the Hotels - I have always stayed at the Sheraton - fine for standard trips - but in your case - take heed of the other replies.

I was just online checking out different sites and came upon this interesting one.

I flipped through and happen to see the Nine Zero Hotel on it with a 2 night package that looks extremely reasonable compared to calling the front desk and getting their high rates. Check it out if you get the chance. It%26#39;s a deal and a half actually. Another possibility? Especially where it%26#39;s such a special occasion and you want it to be memorable; where it%26#39;s going to be your honeymoon now too; would be this idea? You could do a ';surprise 2 night package'; to an Estate in Newport, RI. to see what I mean go to this site mentioned and it%26#39;ll show you photos. It%26#39;s stunning there. It would only be a little over an hour away from Boston. Just rent a car and take off. On this site www.luxurylink.com there%26#39;s an unbelievable package for 2 in a luxurious Manor or Estate called the Chanler at Cliff Walk for $824. You could even see about the Auction on it to get it for less, what do you have to lose! What a nice surprise that would be for the two of you!

First off let me say to NoMo, Beantown and Js, thanks for taking the time to give your tips and advice. Its great to get perspective from those in the know, as it were on how to really enjoy the best of Boston and live it up for a few days.

I was really, or am, undecided between the Harbour Hotel and the Langham. The main thing swaying it towards the Harbour would be that its a different place to try out, and that it seems to have some wonderful spa facilites there. I had looked at the Ritz-Carlton and The Four Seasons but I really just love the whole vibe around the Quincy and Faneuil area. I always love trying out new restaurants and food types and my word Quincy and the Harbour area has that going on.

I agree with you NoMo on the Langham, its one amazing hotel. My girlfriend thought she was in heaven when on the first night a maid come in and offered to turn down the bed clothing. What a gorgeous touch by them.

So right now, I am going to go back through them all and see how they weigh them up again. Will start with the Boston Yacht now take it from there.

Blasketisland and Little Pumpkin!

I was just checking out to see where the Blasket Islands were and they%26#39;re right above the map where my grandmother lived in Ireland! She was from Bere Island, her name was Mary Moriarty! Does that ring a bell to either of you? I was there in the 80%26#39;s and then in 91 and in 01. We%26#39;re going back at the end of June for 3 weeks in %26#39;06. This time though we want to see Donegal and go down the west coast through Dingle Bay; then further down to Bere Island again.

I have cousins all over the place to see!

Would imagine that you will fly into Shannon if you plan on visiting Cork/Kerry. Can I suggest that you plan to spend some time around Galway/Mayo (Mayo in particular) on your way to Donegal. In my opinion Mayo is the most beautiful county in Ireland, totally under-rated and less of the Oirish/touristy vibe going on. I lived there for 3 years and plan to return eventually to retire and ditch the rat race of the east coast.

Let me know if I can be of any help with your itinerary. Would have good knowledge of the West (Galway/Mayo in particular) and also the rat-race that is the East Coast (Dublin, Meath, Louth)

Sorry for not getting back earlier, things got a bit hectic on me yesterday. I had kind of looked at the Unitarian Church idea Pumpking but didnt get too far on it. Not sure why as I dont know enough about it to knock it on the head. As it stands we are inclined towards a small service, well there will just be the two of us anway, on Boston Common probably in the evening time. We are in the process of trying to get that organised at the moment. So Pumpkin I am not as organised as you thought or I should be!!!!

NoMo, Pumpkin is right about you trying to spend some more time around Galway and Mayo, they are beautiful though I guess some times that is weather dependent. Like Pumpkin said, its way more of the real Ireland than the east coast around Dublin. While its easy to understand why tourists always hit the Dublin area while visiting here, I think the west coast and Mayo esp are much better to visit.

Spent some time looking at luxurylink.com too, Nomo, wow some amazing places on there. Truly wonderful locations to stay at.

Am thinking of the Boston Harbour now as the more likely place to stay, finances permitting :). It looks gorgeous and ideal for the stay.

Will have another look at the Unitarian Pumpkin and see what the story is. Thanks for the heads up all
