Which month should we go?

I am taking my mother to Boston as a birthday gift, but am not sure which is the best month to go. She hates heat, and hates cold, so I am trying to pick a time that has sunshine, warm evenings, and when all the grass is green and flowers in bloom... that sort of thing. I was thinking spring maybe?? Just wasn%26#39;t sure when it starts to get really nice.

Which month should we go?

Hi RanchWoman,

From the middle of April until late June is the absolute best time to tour the City!

July and early August is way too hot usually to be in ANY city I think! Then September is usually beautiful around here right in to early October!

March to me is still too raw out around here with wind and rain a lot of times, it%26#39;s unpredictable with snow then too a lot of times! We never know when it%26#39;s going to hit, some times we get slammed with snowstorms right through till early April!

In the Boston area the summertime a lot of times is just way too hot and humid and it%26#39;s not very pleasant to be in a City touring it when it%26#39;s like that. It can make it extremely uncomfortable I think. Some people don%26#39;t mind it? I can%26#39;t stand it! I either have to be at the ocean, the lake or the mountains, once the temperature goes up past 85, I%26#39;m out of there! I%26#39;m not kidding you! The last place you%26#39;d want to be is in that City touring it with that type of heat and humidity!

If your mother is elderly, like mine? Then forget the summer time touring! They shouldn%26#39;t be in that type of heat any way, it%26#39;s not healthy. So your best bet is the Springtime or the early Fall for visiting Boston! You%26#39;ll both be so much more comfortable and you can really enjoy it much more.

Have fun!

Which month should we go?

Thanks for the help! I was thinking mid May or so, so that works great. She is not elderly, she is in her late 50%26#39;s. She loves to shop, and likes scenic things... but that%26#39;s a whole other post when I get there. I have never been and don%26#39;t even know where to start. For some reason she has always wanted to go there. At least I can narrow down the time of year for now!

First two weeks of June is guaranteed to not be cold or too hot. Late August and thru October is wonderful

Be sure to stay downtown and enjoy walking around. No car is needed.

Recomend

Omni Parker House

XV Beacon

Great locations and best to see all the sites, shopping and restaurants.

Enjoy

Just note that the middle of May is when College commencements happen. If you really want to come to Boston at that time, make your hotel reservations well in advance.

Previous poster brings up a good point re: college commencements. I always enjoy the city more when it empties out a bit and the college kids retreat home. So definitely, if you choose May, come later in the month.

April can be damp and cold, and forget March-it can still feel like Winter. Better in late May or early June.

The Boston Common and the Public Gardens are in wonderful bloom at this time. Days are often sunny, and evenings are pleasant, but it will cool off once the sun goes down.

As far as the college commencements go, it%26#39;s not the college kids on break that make the city crowded, it%26#39;s that families are in town for graduations and that fills a lot of hotel rooms!

Early Fall is also wonderful, and generally dry. Warm days and cool nights are the general rule.

When you start planning your sightseeing, you should definitely include The Freedom Trail. It%26#39;s a great walk through the city with historic higlights, and it will take you into some of the best areas for lunch or dining options (i.e. Quincy Market, The North End).

If your mother requires lots of sunshine, warm evenings, warm but not hot temperatures and average humidity, when all the grass is green and flowers in bloom, then the first two weeks in June are exceptional, especially with the long daylight hours. The second two weeks in June are also great and just a bit wamrer.
