Allston

Is Allston in northern or southern Boston? Same question with the BU campus?

Allston

The best way I can explain this is that BU is west of downtown Boston. When you board a Green line trolley from downtown, you would head in the ';outbound'; direction. If you take the ';B'; train (Boston College-Commonwealth Ave.) it will leave you right at the sprawling campus. Allston is up the road (Comm. Ave.) heading west of BU.

Allston

As a lifelong Bostonian, I must say this is the first time I%26#39;ve heard somebody reference northern Boston or southern Boston. HAHA!!

Allston/Brighton and BU are west of downtown Boston, and definitely require the T or a cab or a car ride. The B and C trains on the Green Line.

I guess I must have been a resident of midwestern Boston for all those years without knowing it! And before that, south-central Boston!

East Boston is north of the city. The North end is just south of the West End, and South Boston is to the east.

But Allston is definitely to the west.

Now that we%26#39;ve throughly turned you around, all subway trains heading to downtown are inbound, if you head away from downtown you are outbound. BU is definitely outbound, on Commonwealth Avenue (Comm Ave). The section of Boston known as Allston really begins just beyond the BU campus.
