Need to book restaurant in advance?

We will be arriving in Boston at 3:15 on te 4th odf Dec (Sunday) and then getting a lift to our Hotel the Sheraton. Would we need to have booked dinner for Sunday evening in advance from Ireland or should we have no problems getting somewhere nice to eat and fairly near the Sheraton as we will be still getting our bearings on the first night? There will be 3 people.

I don%26#39;t think you would have a problem on a Sunday evening. There are MANY great restaurants around the Sheraton area. Depending on the type of food and atmosphere you%26#39;re looking for, you should have no trouble.

If the weather is nice, you could stroll Newbury and Boylston Sts. and choose a place, or if the weather is cold or otherwise unpleasant, you could opt for any of the places inside the Prudential or Copley Place malls, which are connected by interior walkways to the Sheraton.

The Top of the Hub on the 52nd floor of the ';Pru'; might be nice...

The exception might be in the theatre district, but that%26#39;s not really close to the Sheraton.

If you like seafood you could go to Legal Seafoods in the Copley Place Mall which is connected as stated in the previous post by interior walk ways to your hotel. You can check their menu right online.

fobs what part of Ireland are you coming from? I am just asking as this has gotten me thinking fondly of the trip we took to Ireland in 1997... We would like to get back there again as I am sure things have changed, hopefully not too much and there were so many places we didn%26#39;t get to. It was a fun trip -- when the Irish people we met heard we were from Boston they felt an immediate kinship to us. Plus my husband and I having Irish roots didn%26#39;t hurt fitting in also.

Unless you are planning to go to a fancy 5-star restaurant, you shouldn%26#39;t have any trouble getting a table without a reservation on a Sunday night.

If you like Seafood, try the Summer Shack on Dalton St., across the street from the Sheraton, or Legal Sea Foods at the Copley Place Mall, a couple of blocks away.

If you are looking for a casual place, pub food type, on Boylston St, across from the Sheraton, Whiskey%26#39;s pub or the Pour House, both have great pub grub (burgers, sandwiches, etc.).

There%26#39;s also a great steak house (a bit expensive, but worth it) called Abe and Louie%26#39;s. If you like top of the line steaks, it%26#39;s great.

Next door to the Sheraton, at the Prudential Mall, there%26#39;s a Cheesecake Factory restaurant, which is a chain place, but the food is good and it%26#39;s reasonably-priced too. If you go there, be forewarned that one of their entrees could probably feed your entire party. I always take home a doggie bag when I go there.

If you have any specific food likes and want more suggestions, let me know. There are tons of good restaurants within walking distance of your hotel.

Sedum37 - we are coming from Cork but in a small town that is about 40 mils from Cork city. A lot of people coming to Ireland now seem to stay in Dublin and don%26#39;t venture down around the beautiful cork/kerry region as much. I would still highly recommend people to visit west Cork and the Kerry region - lovely places like youghal,bantry,killarney,dingle etc... would definately deserve a visit not to mention the west of Ireland ...connemara,galway,achill Island. I could go on. The beauty of Ireland is it is so compact and easy to get around but the downside are our transport links so hiring a car is almost essential!

Anyway back on topic I am really looking forward to our trip now. I love seafood but my sister and mother don%26#39;t (tend to veer towards chicken dishes) so need to go to a place that has a good mixture of cuisine.

We will get our bearings after Monday I am sure when we will be touring and shopping in your great city! Counting down the days..

If you want variety on the menu and a nice comfortable, relaxing place for dinner try the Cheesecake Factory while you%26#39;re in Boston, they%26#39;re all over the country and they%26#39;re very good and consistant, we%26#39;ve never had a bad meal here at all! You%26#39;ll really like the variety of choices on their menu! There%26#39;s one located at the front of the Huntington wing of the Shops at the Pru right within walking distance from the Sheraton that you%26#39;re staying at.

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll need reservations that first night, but call if you want to be sure, 617 399-7777.

While you%26#39;re traveling around the City and if you go to the Museum of Science there%26#39;s also a Cheesecake Factory located on the first level of the Cambridgeside Galleria. You can either take the Green Line and get off at the Lechmere stop or if you end up driving around the City you can park there for 3 hours or less for 99 cents! It%26#39;s one restaurant that my cousins really liked alot from Ireland! Check it out!
