Help with Last week in November

I%26#39;m planing on going to Cape Cod Nov 25-27 with my wife as a romantic getaway. I understand it%26#39;s off-season right now and it%26#39;s very quiet. I%26#39;d like to stroll around some shops, do some site seeing, maybe some bike riding and such. Id also like to go on a ferry ride to either Martha%26#39;s Vineyard or Nantucket. What section of the cape do you suggest I stay in? Upper of middle? Originally I was thinking of staying in the Middle section but I noticed that there are only seasonal ferries to MV from there during this season, but I should be able to get to Nantucket. On the other hand if I stay in the Upper Section I can get to MV, but not Nantucket. Which is a better island to visit this time of year? MV or Nantucket? Also maybe you could suggest a nice place to stay for around ~$100/night.

Thank you in advance,

Chris

Help with Last week in November

Hello Cdach2000,

That sounds like a plan for that weekend. You know who will have some ideas for you is CapeCodCharlie and others from the Cape that live there in the summer! Keep checking back here for suggestions okay?

You%26#39;ll miss the Annual Christmas Stroll in Nantucket Dec 2-4th, that%26#39;s pretty popular every year. Although packed with people like you would NOT believe now. I went to the original one and a few years after that we went and that was IT for my friends and I. One of my friends sister was on the Committee that started those and they blossomed like you wouldn%26#39;t believe all over the country!

The Vineyard has their 10th Annual Vineyard Artisans Holiday Festival Nov 25-26th that looks like fun in the Agricultural Hall in W. Tisbury from 10 - 4 with no admission fee.

Go to these sites:

If you hear from CapeCodCharlie you%26#39;ll definitely get good suggestions on where to stay on the Cape for your weekend. I myself like the Cape from Hyannis down to Chatham area, like see if you can get a room at the Harbor House Inn in Hyannis? That%26#39;s one place I want to stay at next summer at some point! I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;ll be a few suggestions on where to stay here, so keep checking back. This Harbor House Inn has a deal which I%26#39;m sure if you do your homework a lot of them will, this time of year off season, where you stay there and the 2nd night is 50% off. Check around and also on this site here you can get an idea of where you might want to stay.

Have a great weekend away!

I just looked at this Inn again and it looks like it closed at the end of October, sorry about that, but keep it on your list for the summer months, it looks like a really cute place to stay! You%26#39;ll have to keep checking further for a place that%26#39;s open year round. The Cape pretty much closes up shop by the end of October!

You should see where I live on NH%26#39;s seacoast. It%26#39;s so desolate up through here, it%26#39;s not even funny!

Just keep checking back here and you%26#39;ll get other suggestions!

Good luck!

Wherever you end up, have a wonderful time!

My husband and I are going to the Cape for a romantic getaway, Memorial Day weekend.

Cannot remember the last time we were away together, just the two of us.

Nice to look forward to.........

definitely stay in Chatham. Far and away the most quaint of all towns at the Cape. There are soem great B%26amp;B%26#39;s in town. Go to the Chatham Bars Inn (CBI) for drinks/dinner. The CBI is quite expensive to stay, but you can still enjoy the hotel. You can try the Wayside Inn in Chatham as well. It%26#39;s tough to find a decent place though for less than $150 night. Enjoy!

Hi Chris, Did you nail down your accommodations yet? If not write back. I agree that Chatham is the perfect place for what you want. Check the weather conditions and the wind/seas but I think you might be happier in the long run limiting yourselves to staying on the Cape and leave the island exploration for a calm, summer day. I don%26#39;t know how serious you are about staying within your budget but you will find more accommodations closer to your price range in Provincetown. If you understand and don%26#39;t mind the gay influence there then I would suggest that you stay there in a fireplaced room (I can give you some suggestions) and plan to visit Chatham on the 26th. There is plenty of sightseeing that you can do on the way down and back and you can easily make a full day of it with Chatham as your centerpiece. I agree about experiencing the CBI. To fit your budget have lunch there or, more romantic, afternoon tea. Don%26#39;t forget to park at Lighthouse Beach (take your binoculars)and go to Fish Pier between 2-4PM to get a bird%26#39;s eye view of the day%26#39;s catch being unloaded. Do check with the fish market people to find out if the boats went out that day when you get there. Of course the Main St. shops are quite unique and interesting. Chatham is one of the most scenic Cape towns. Rt 28 toward Orleans offers some of the most lovely scenery with views of Pleasant Bay. The causeway to Morris Island (combine this with Lighthouse beach) has harbor and ocean views and the road to Cockle Cove Beach runs along a picturesque river and salt marsh. You can get directions at CBI. If you like raw oysters then stop on your way back in Wellfleet at the Bookstore Restaurant for some Wellfleet oysters. Have those and nothing else except perhaps the french onion soup. We think the rest of the menu is not worth your $ but the oysters are great with the soup following. As for romance Chris, how about bringing some wonderfully scented (vanilla, lavendar etc.) candles with you, some bath and/or massage oils, some wine with corkscrew and beautiful glasses then bring some fancy chocolates or ask the hotel to send in some chocolate covered strawberries. You can tell the hotelier that you are celebrating and ask for suggestions, and they might put an arrangement of flowers in the room for you comp. Of course you%26#39;ve already got that all covered I bet. If you have time on the way home you can drive Rt. 6A through Brewster and Dennis and visit Galleries and/or antique and other interesting shops. Do try to get the listing of the galleries if your time is limited so that you can visit just certain ones. An alternate good and pleasant %26#39;last gasp%26#39; option is stopping in Sandwich. Visit the picturesque Shawme Duck Pond and Dexter Grist Mill on Water St. and consider a visit to the Glass Museum-129 Main St. 9:30 to 5. If the weather is good I highly recommend a wall on the boardwalk crossing the marshes then offering great Bay views at the end of the 1350-foot walkway.(Harbor St. off Factory St.) Order an authentic ploughman%26#39;s lunch at Dunbar%26#39;s Tea Room-1 Water St. 11:00 to 4:30 or afternoon tea (if you missed it at CBI) for $11. plus tea with the usual sweets and finger sandwiches. Then, all to soon, it%26#39;s up and over the bridge. Happy trails. P.S. Pick up the Friday edition of Cape Cod Times. There will be an entertainment secion called Cape Week inserted. For a preview, take a look at it via capecodonline.com. You can also check the weather report at this website but I like to see the weather using the webcams. The Wellfleet webcam is the Beachcomber. No matter what the weather you%26#39;ll have a great time on the Cape. Enjoy yourselves and, would you jot a note upon your return with comments? Thx.

Wow, you guys are great. Thank you to everyone who responded. I booked a nice room at the Anchor Inn, in Hyannis overlooking the water. I also plan on taking a day trip over to Nantucket is the weather is good. So far I%26#39;ve been able to keep it a secret from my wife. If all goes well, maybe I come by again in the summer with the kids.

Thanks,

Chris
