A Marriott in Boston/Salem

Would like to stay with Marriott( have free stay) and visit Salem. How far to Salem? Which of the many Marriotts would be most logically located. Driving from Long Island and have 2 days in the area. Alos, a good brew pub in Salem? Thanks!!

A Marriott in Boston/Salem

Hi,

There is a Marriott in Peabody, which is the next town over from Salem. But, you%26#39;d be better off staying at a Marriott downtown Boston, as long as it%26#39;s free.

The Marriott Copley Place or the Marriott Long Wharf are both centrally-located near the tourist attractions and public transit. To get to Salem, you can either drive, it%26#39;s about a 45min drive from Boston, or better yet, take a train.

The commuter rail goes from North Station to Salem center and the service is pretty frequent. It takes about 30 minutes. The station in Salem is near most of the historical and tourist sites.

A Marriott in Boston/Salem

Hi Dltreks,

Well the Marriott in Peabody is on Centennial Drive in Peabody which is basically a business complex area and if you didn%26#39;t have a car you%26#39;d be stuck out there. The 2 Marriotts right in Boston, especially the Longwharf location is within walking distance to North Station to hop on the train for Salem and where it%26#39;s free with your free stay plan? The two locations right in Boston are bigger and nicer hotels!

Check www.mbta.com for the commuter rail schedules Inbound and Outbound to make sure you get back to Boston, that%26#39;s basically the only thing you have to worry about---that last train out of Salem to get back in town! Which isn%26#39;t a bad thing to worry about these days!

There%26#39;s a lot of pubs n Salem. There%26#39;s O%26#39;Neill%26#39;s Pub %26amp; Restaurant at 126 Washington St., there%26#39;s McSwiggins Pub %26amp; Restaurant at 121 Essex St., the 99 is at 15 Bridge St., there%26#39;s the Dodge Street Bar %26amp; Grill at 7 Dodge St., this one looks like it would be really fun, although it would probably be pretty crowded I bet closer to Halloween, it%26#39;s Rockafella%26#39;s at 231 Essex St. There%26#39;s the Salem Beer Works at 278 Derby St. in downtown Salem.

There%26#39;s an Annual Halloween Costume Ball ';Medieval Madness'; on Saturday 10/29 from 8 to midnight for $85 at the Hawthorne Hotel. A lot of fun things going on up in Salem this coming week!

Check out www.hauntedhappenings.com

We even have bulletins along the roads in New Hampshire about this website, so it must be really good!

Have fun and be safe!

As for the free stay in Boston vs Peabody, if this is using Marriott Rewards points, then there may be a determining factor. Different Marriotts have different rewards levels. A prime downtown Marriott is going to have a higher reward level than a suburban Marriott. I just thought I%26#39;d throw that bone out there.

Is the traveler interested in visiting Boston? No mention of it. Is the traveler visiting Salem during Haunted Happenings (thru next Monday)? What days of the week?

If not interested in visiting Boston, and traveling during the week, then the Peabody Marriott would be ideal, in that you are only 10 minutes drive from downtown Salem, and the crowds should be less. On the weekend, traffic around Salem Center and parking become very tough. Get there early.

Salem Beer Works is right there near all the Halloween action. Derby Street, I think.

This upcoming weekend and almost certainly on October 31st, the commute from the Peabody Mariott on Route 128 to Salem on Rout 114 East, from noon onward will require about 45 minutes to one hour. There will be at least 20,000 people trying to get into Salem on those days. It is much better to take the train from Boston which, although crowded, will run extra cars and trains on those days or stay in Beverly and take the train one stop to Salem (South)which, although very busy with extra passengers on those days will not be extremely crowded. Important - purchase your round trip tickets in advance.

Thanks Edgers!

Your advice needs to be seen by every one heading to Salem this weekend, it%26#39;s very good and so true!

Use your rewad stay at the Courtyard in Copley Place rather than the full service Marriott....it%26#39;ll go further.

It is by far the best Marriott in town with great staff, amazing rooms and a different free event each night. The Sam Adams brewery staff comes there one night a week for beer tasting, they do afternoon tea and a cool chocolate fountain dessert night.

Young staff...very helpful...great location.
