3 days near Boston

I will be staying in Chelmsford/Lowell area Oct. 20 - 24 and would like to see the Boston area without having to drive too much. Tours would be fine. Are there any that pick up passengers in the Lowell area? Any suggestions for a first time visitor?

Hello Txlyn,

Boston Tours of Waltham is very good as a suggestion they pick up at the suburban hotels. If your hotel isn%26#39;t listed with them; then they arrange it at the nearest location. Here%26#39;s there site to check there tours out and their 1 800# is right on this page as well....if this doesn%26#39;t help then I would check at the front desk of your hotel where you%26#39;re staying and may be they can suggest an alternative or some one else online can here! Good luck and have fun!

There%26#39;s also a ';Commuter Rail'; (easy, cheap train) station in Lowell, that will bring you downtown, etc. See www.mbta.com. From there, or other stops on that train line, you can pick up a lot of the other ideas on the Boston Forum threads.

Thanks for the suggestions! The Boston Tours pick-up locations look like a good possibility.

Is it too late for foliage? If not, any suggestions for a foliage tour?

This is not to late for foliage in the Massachusetts area. It has pretty much peaked in the NH, VT and ME area. You might want to take a ride throught the Bershires in western MA. It might not be as nice though because of all the flooding.

Appreciate the suggestions. We may try them all!

If you are interested in Revolutionary history and seeing sites outside of Boston, you might also check out the Lexington/Concord area. If you really don%26#39;t want to drive, you could take the commuter train mentioned in another post to Porter Square station and catch another line out to Concord, although schedules can be a hassle. There is at least one tour company that will pick up at the Concord rail station.

You could also drive from Chelmsford/Lowell to Lexington and Concord. One very pretty drive, especially at this time of year, is Route 2A west, which is an exit off of 128/95. I don%26#39;t know the exit number offhand, but it%26#39;s between Burlington and Waltham on 128. Anyway, Route 2A west is a country road that follows roughly the Minuteman trail from Lexington to Concord. Concord center is especially picturesque.

Enjoy your trip.
