Boston / Hyannis / Martha Vineyard / Provincetown Review

I will try and make this short and sweet .We are a well travelled couple in our late forties who like the finer things in life .

We arrived in Boston on Sat. Sept 3 at the Park Plaza Hotel . It gets a bad wrap in our opinion . We stayed in a deluxe king size bedroom for 179.00 a night . There was plenty of space and the room was recently renovated . The walls are thin and the air conditoning loud but I wear ear plugs because my better half snores so I did not hear a thing in any case . It has a lovely lobby and the best rate around at the time because it was the long weekend . The night club seemed to be popular . It is in a great location . We took the duck tour which was a lot of fun and very informative . We then went to Faneiull Hall by subway to the open market and browsed through the shops . Walked back through Beacon Hill and the park . Boston is a lovely clean city and very safe day and night . It is very walkable and you do not need a car . It is very expensive to park one at around 30.00 a day . We went for dinner at the Top of the Hub on the 52nd flloor of the Prudential Bldg . The food and service was very good . We paid 325.00 for 4 with one bottle of wine .

Sunday we shopped on Newbury Street where I did a bit of damage. They have all the designer stores on that street . Shopping is great in general with many shopping areas and malls . We then headed out to watch the baseball game at Fenway . Fun !!!! That night we went to the North End (Little Italy) for dinner at Lucca . It was ok not great .Do not have there mushroom lasangna . It was made with potato chips . Not very authentic itallian . We are a little hard to please being of italian decent . We then hit a bakery for espresso and dessert .

Monday headed off to Hyannis . We stayed at the Heritage House Hotel . It was nothing fancy but the rate was good at 87.00 . The rooms were recently updated and the hotel was walking distance to the ferries .This was on my ';must places to see '; and I was dsappointed with the whole area . This whole area is nothing but a glorified cottage area . Some of the homes are lovely but who cares I don%26#39;t live in them .We ate pizza at a small Trattoria on Main St. .It was directly across the street from the hotel .Service was very slow . Minestrone and pizza was good .

Tuesday - Martha Vineyard was the same wayas Hyannis and frankly expensive at 64.00 a couple on a tradtional ferry ride . It took 1 and a half hours each way . The ferry left at 9 and picked us up around 5 . I wish I had not wasted my time . Circuit St. the main street in Oak Bluffs was very tacky and Edgartown not that much better .We ate at Captain Parkers in Yarmouth that evening . Excellent award winning clam chowder . I had the mussels with linguine and my husband had lobster . Service and food very good .

Wed. Off to Provincetown . Great little place . Nice main street to shop . The ocean in right behind it . You can go whale watching . Lots of restaurants and it is very quaint . If you are homophobic don%26#39;t go there .We have many friends that are gay so it does not bother us to see them be openly affectionate . We watched the sun set at Herrings Cove . It was beautiful and romantic . That night we ate just across the street from Captain Parkers . I forget the name but DO NOT eat there . It was horrible and that is why ithe name is so forgetful .

The weather was sunny and warm all 6 days we were there . If I had to do this trip over again I would take the ferry over from Boston to Provincetown . It only takes 1 and a half hours . I would skip The Cape altogether . Coming back from Hyannis was a nightmare and took double the time because the Sagamore Bridge was down to 1 lane .

Hope this helps anyone travelling to those destinations .

Happy travelling ! Feel free to ask any questions .

Boston / Hyannis / Martha Vineyard / Provincetown Review

Wow envy, did you only see Hyannis down in the cape? if so then you missed so much more the area has to offer. I%26#39;ve been going to the cape for 6 years now and enjoy it thoroughly. You could be on a different beach every day of the month! And if you%26#39;re into shopping than there%26#39;s plenty of that as well as scenic route 6A, nothing like that in TO. Heck Newbury street is on the same level as Yorkville here.

And the Vineyard, well if you only saw oak bluffs and edgartown than you haven%26#39;t seen the vineyard and I would suggest to give it a second chance and rent a car or take yours over for a couple of days and tour the island, head down to south beach and take a hike around the aquinnah cliffs, breathtaking!

Have to agree with you on P town, it%26#39;s a great place and very colourful, makes it that much more fun! You have to try Bubbala%26#39;s for breakfast lunch or dinner, great food and service!

We%26#39;ve just returned from boston, the cape, mv and did nascar in new hampshire, we were gone for 2 weeks but I miss it already!

September is the best time in New England. Will make the cape my second home someday.

If your found of sand dunes and salty air.......
