Desserts in Boston :-))

Only 3 weeks to our trip! Just wondering where is good for fattening treats in Boston - I%26#39;d love a good slice of pumpkin pie!

Desserts in Boston :-))

Try the Boston Creme Pie at the Omni Parker House, where it was invented. Excellent.

Desserts in Boston :-))

Boston Creme pie at the Parker House- Yum. Or, try Finales, a restaurant that only sells very very decadent desserts and champagne. A perfect end to an evening.

oh yes, think I know that Finales place - it%26#39;s near the Boston park plaza I think.

I like the Cheesecake Factory, even though it%26#39;s a chain restaurant, their desserts are unbeatable, and the rest of the menu is very good. It%26#39;s worth the wait! There are seasonal options (such as pumpkin). Locations in the Cambridge Side Galleria mall near the museum on science, and the Prudential Mall in Back Bay. Have a wonderful trip!

Tell me more about Boston Creme Pie - what%26#39;s its main ingredient? What sort of flavours does it have? I%26#39;ll be in Boston in 2 weeks time and need to know if I should be tracking this pie down!

Is pumpkin pie sweet or savoury? The heading on this thread suggests it%26#39;s sweet but I think of pumpkin as a savoury food.

Can%26#39;t wait to be in Boston btw. :)

I%26#39;ve always wondered WHY Boston Cream Pie was called that... It%26#39;s actually a cake... usually 2 layers of yellow cake, filled with custard in-between, then frosted on the top with chocolate.

Pumpkin Pie is one of my favorites! It%26#39;s sort of like sweet potatoe pie or squash pie. The pumpkin itself isn%26#39;t as sweet as sweet potatoes, but is usually flavored with sweet condensed milk, brown sugar and cinnamon. Many places serve it with a dollop of whipped cream... (something we didn%26#39;t do years ago I doubt the early versions of the treat didn%26#39;t either). The flavor is less sweet than candied yams, but all depends on the baker%26#39;s recipe. The texture is not unlike the denser varieties of cheescake.

I personally think that pumpkin flavored cheesecake has about as much appeal to lovers of pumpkin pie as ';clam strips'; have to (whole) clam lovers... the former%26#39;s similarities to the latter are undeniable to the uninitiated, but the differences are abhorrant to many devotees. Not to mention the most obvious difference.... cheesecake is generally served in a graham cracker crust... a fate shared with too many unfortunate (gag! / unbaked) Key Lime pies!

The Pumpkin pie sounds great - licking my lips already! Hubby can%26#39;t eat chocolate so we%26#39;ll probably steer clear of the Boston Creme Pie. Thanks for the explanation. :)

Mike%26#39;s Pastries in the North End has all kinds of luscious cakes and pastries.

The BEST ice cream? Toscanini%26#39;s, in Cambridge.

At the food stalls in Quincy Market, make sure to try either Carol Ann%26#39;s Bakery, or the North End Bakery. The pastries and cakes at either one are delicious. Lots of times, those things don%26#39;t taste nearly as good as they look, but at these places, they do.

Also, I second Mike%26#39;s Pastry. Also, Modern Pastry, across the street. Take a walk down Hanover St. in the North End and stop at either one, for fantastic Italian pastry.
