restaurants in cambridge or back bay?

would anyone recommend restaurants in cambridge or back bay? we%26#39;re from NY and love good food and good service but not-so-stuffy atmosphere. restaurants offering great tasting menus are great too! also, we%26#39;ll be visiting boston from thurs night to fri and will be staying in waltham. what%26#39;s within a 5-10 min walking distance to north station? we%26#39;d probably drive to cambridge but take the commuter rail in if we decide to do dinner thurs night in boston. we were considering harvest, oleana, or rialto but many of the back bay restaurants look very appealing! also, is breaking up cambridge thurs night and spending some time in harvard square and doing freedom trail and walking boston all day friday a good way to condense our too short of a time in boston? thanks!

If you want a really good restaurant in Cambridge I can suggest my favorite one if you%26#39;d like? I went to school in Cambridge and this particular place has been over in Cambridge since I was a Junior (in HS, %26#39;71 OOOkay??!!!) It%26#39;s got unbelievable Italian food and it%26#39;s now listed as Zagat%26#39;s and Fodor%26#39;s top top places for dinner. It%26#39;s at 853 Main Street, Cambridge and the # is 617 497-4214. It%26#39;s called LA GROCERIA.

I would make reservations if I were you, it%26#39;s got a really fun, relaxed atmosphere, it%26#39;s NOT a bunch of ';stuffed shirts'; at ALL in the place! You%26#39;ll have a wonderful night out, believe me! We%26#39;ve made it ';girls night out'; QUITE a lot of times through the years there and always had a fantastic time in there, couples and all sitting right near us joining RIGHT in! If you go in to their site you can check out the menu and the directions:

Unbelievable food w/homemade pasta, you%26#39;ll go crazy with their menu you won%26#39;t know what to get!

Really good site to check out restaurants in Boston and Cambridge? Is this... www.bostonplus.com/boston2.html

Another really good site is www.phantomgourmet.com

From North Station you%26#39;re within walking distance to Massimino%26#39;s on Endicott St in the North End, which isn%26#39;t even a 6 minute walk. A lot of wonderful restaurants in through the North End, this particular one is GREAT and one of my OTHER favorites! It%26#39;s very close to the North Station complex, quite convenient to get in and out of. Going the other way from North Station and the North End you could always walk up through the Quincy Market area or head over to Beacon Hill.

You could always check out that ';Scollay Square'; restaurant every one is talking about now! You could tell US what you thought of it when you get back! Let us know what you think because I%26#39;m hearing a LOT of good words from local friends about ';that one!'; I%26#39;m curious myself about it! I read about it again here for the 10th time, so every one is checking it out lately!

My father always always talked about the old ';Scollay Square'; it%26#39;s WAY before my time (of course!) I just remember as a kid living in the City and my parents would drive us in to that area when they were tearing it all down and building the JFK Building and they%26#39;d reminisce AND reminisce ALL about the place, they must have had a great time! So that%26#39;s all I know about ';Scollay Square!'; This restaurant sounds VERY VERY good to me and from the sounds of it? It%26#39;s not a bunch of stuffed shirts either that go there! Enjoy your time in Boston and let us know where you ended up! Have Fun!

If you like Spanish and Basque food, then check out Iruna in Harvard Square. It%26#39;s been there for 40 years and they have great garlic soup. The menu is kind of limited but the place is never too crowded and the service is great.

My favorite Boston restaurant is in the South End... not too far from the Back Bay T stop. It%26#39;s called the Franklin Cafe, and it%26#39;s on Shawmut Ave. It%26#39;s small and unpretentious, with a menu that changes regualrly. They have a great bar, which draws a great local crowd, and makes fantastic specialty drinks. The food ranges from Tuna steaks to mixed grills, poultry, steaks, and the best steamed mussels around!

In Cambridge, I like the East Coast Grill, and for lunch, the S %26amp; S Deli... both in Inman Square.

You can walk to the North End or Quincy Marketplace in about 10 minutes... both huge favorites with visitors. Hanover St. in the North End is lined with great Italian restaurants, and for desserts, try Mike%26#39;s or the Modern bakeries.

In Cambridge, I love Atasca Portuguese restaurant on Broadway, near Kendall Sq. Delicious food, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Also in Cambridge, the Helmand Afgani restaurant on First Ave. near Lechmere Sq. Different and unusual food, great atmosphere, and also very relaxed. Reservations are requred for Helmand if you hope to get in, though. Also, Magnolia%26#39;s and Green St. Grill for Southern/Caribbean style food are both excellent.

If you have time on Friday, I%26#39;d suggest a Duck Tour of Boston. It%26#39;s a good way to see a lot of the city in 90 minutes, and it%26#39;s fun. You can also walk part of the Freedom Trail, just into the North End, perhaps. If you need some energy after walking, make sure to stop in to Mike%26#39;s Pastry on Hanover St. and get some sweets. The sugar rush will keep you going for the rest of the afternoon.
