Where to Stay??

Hope to visit Boston for the first time for a 2 night stay in February 2006. We will not have a car, so would like to stay fairly central / close to public trasportation. Can anyone please suggest a nice hotel mid range price? Our 14 year old son will be with us too. Any suggestions for something that might interest him? We will be in town for Presidents Day - will all the stores be closed?

Thanks very much , any advice will be much appreciated.

Where to Stay??

Presidents Day falls on the first day of Winter Vacation for the schools. Stores and such will be open - government offices will be closed. Almost all the hotels listed on this site are within the city center, and within a stone%26#39;s throw of public transpo. It depends more on what you%26#39;re willing to pay. Hotel rates in Boston are quite high - prepare yourself for sticker shock. If you%26#39;re looking for under $150.00 a night you might have to search more.

The Copley area, Beacon Hill and the Financial District would be good locations. Do you want business amenities? Try the Wyndham Broad Street. Something a little cozier? The Beacon Hill Inn might fit the bill. There%26#39;s also The Copley Plaza or the Lenox, too.

Many of the museums - (particularly the Museum of Science) will have stuff going on that week. When it gets closer go to mos.org to see what they have listed.

Where to Stay??

Hi George,

I%26#39;ve been recommending a hotel in Downtown Boston called the Clarion Bullfinch hotel on Merrimac St. It%26#39;s a fairly new hotel, smaller, and less expensive than the big ';name'; hotels like Sheraton, Hilton, etc. People have gotten rooms there for around $150/night, which is cheap for Boston.

It%26#39;s got good reviews here on Trip Advisor, so take a look. It%26#39;s in an excellent location for touring. It%26#39;s near the North End and Quincy Market, and near the T (public transit/subway).

If they are booked, try the Tremont House hotel, on Tremont St. in the Theater District, which is also a good location and near public transit as well.

As for things for your son, the Museum of Science definitely will be a must see. They are having a Star Wars exhibition there which I%26#39;m going to go see myself, as it looks like a lot of fun.

http://www.mos.org , or check the information here on Trip Advisor, under the Boston Attractions section. The Museum of Science also has an Omnimax theater and a planetarium which should be fun for everyone as well.

The New England Aquarium is also a lot of fun and has sharks and other ';neat'; fish on display that a 14yo would like. http://www.neaq.org, or the listings here on Trip Advisor.

The USS Constitution, the oldest actively-commissioned ship in the US Navy (in the world, for that matter), is also something that the whole family should enjoy, as long as you don%26#39;t mind the history behind it :) Here%26#39;s the National Park Service website, with information:

As for President%26#39;s day, everything except for banks, schools and government offices will be open for business.

Thanks so much for all this useful info. We are looking forward to out visit even more now!

We recomend the Omni Parker House

The hotel is in the heart of the Historic Boston sites on the Freedom Trail and accross from BOston Common

The Green Line Red Line and Blue line are right across from the hotel so its easy to ride the subway

But most of all the hotel is located to all the great shops, restaurants and sites you will want to see

Also walk right accross the street to skate on the frog pond in the Common

The hotel offers cookies and milk free for families and much more.

We use the hotel as our base of operation for everytime we spend time in the city
